Dear Parent(s),

We celebrate the fact that your child has met the criteria to enroll in the 9 th grade

Composition and Literature course for high school credit. Because of the level of rigor and demand in this coursework, it is important that you and your child are aware of the following:

The final grade acquired in the course will become a part of your child’s official high school transcript.

At the conclusion of the course, the grade and credit for the course cannot be denied or dismissed.

The grade for a high school credit course will be factored into the high school

Grade Point Average (GPA), but will not count toward the HOPE Scholarship.

All students who take Composition and Literature must take the Georgia

Milestones Assessment System End-of-Course-Test (EOC or GMAS). The score on that test will count as 20% of the final grade for the course.

Your student is also responsible for passing the 8 th

grade End of Grade (EOG)

Georgia Milestones Assessment in Language Arts.

Throughout the 1 st

semester, support in the form of tutorial and other various interventions will be mandatory for your child to have success in the high school credit classes. In January, at the end of first semester, the teacher will evaluate the progress and

GPA of all students in the class. Students who have not demonstrated adequate progress in keeping up with the rigor of the course and who have not maintained a semester average of 85 may be moved to a non-high school credit (8 th

grade English Language

Arts) course. In that event you will be notified personally and in writing the reason for the course change prior to the change being made.

At any time during the first semester you decide that this course is not suited to your child’s needs, you may request from the counselor, teacher, or administrator that your child be removed from the class.

If you agree and want your child placed in the 9 th grade Composition and Literature combination course for high school credit class, please sign and date this letter below.

Please contact Ms. Mary A. Snowden or a school administrator if you have any questions.
