CLASSROOM PROCEDURES FOR TEAM 6B MR. REED MS. BAUSENWEIN SEPTEMBER 2006 Classroom Routine When you come into the classroom you will stay in the classroom. If you have a request to leave, you will be required to use your passbook. If you do not have your passbook with you, or your passes are all used up you will not leave unless it is an emergency. At that point, an administrator will be requested to escort you to your destination. Once you enter the classroom socializing is over. The bell rings to let the teacher know who is late. Turn in any homework assignments, take out your book, pen or pencil, ( sharpen if necessary ) journal, and notebook. Read and copy the “News and Announcements” posted on the chalkboard. You will have about 5 minutes including the 3 minutes of passing time to complete. If you finish early, you are to work quietly until all students finish. There will be no talking to the teacher or to other classmates during this time. If you have a problem with another student or with the class, please see me during homeroom, during lunch, after school, between classes or write me a note. I will not discuss personal problems during class time. Use of Passbook No one will leave the science class unless they have a pass from the office or it is a personal or medical emergency. You will not be allowed to go to your locker during class time, so be sure you have all your needed supplies and books. When I need your attention "Give me five" 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Eyes on speaker Quiet Be still Hands free (put things down) Listen End of period class dismissal. When the bell rings at the end of class, I will dismiss you, not the bell. You will push in your chairs, make sure the area around your seat is clean, and then walk out of the room in an orderly fashion. Also, students should not enter the classroom until the previous class is dismissed. Late to Class Enter the classroom, show me your pass, sit down and get started with the assignment that we are working on immediately. If you miss the journal assignment, it is your responsibility to make up the work either during your lunch, homeroom, or for homework the following day. You are not excused from completing it. If you are late without a pass, you will have lunch detention. See me after class to receive your detention slip. After three late to class, you will receive a referral and a call or note home. If you do not report to my detention on the day it is assigned without an acceptable excuse, you will receive an after school detention. Pencils All students need to bring pencils and pens to class. You will need at least two pencils every day. Please sharpen them in homeroom. If you need to sharpen your pencil, please use the hand sharpener quietly. It is not my responsibility to provide pencils. Gum and Candy There is absolutely no candy or gum allowed in the science room. Any student caught chewing gum will receive a lunch or after school detention. When you are absent Worksheets or assignments will be given to you the next day you are in class. It is your responsibility to complete them and to submit them to me. It is your responsibility to complete any assignment that you have missed. ISS If you receive ISS, your folder will be sent to the ISS Room as soon as possible. Please complete the assignments and keep all work in the folder. These assignments should be completed in order to receive credit for the day. The ISS teacher will return the folder to my mailbox. Group Work We will have many opportunities to work in small groups. When it is announced that we will have group work, please quickly and quietly move to your assigned lab table. It is very important that you work quietly and follow directions during lab work. The groups will be changed each marking period so that you can work with different people. We will form the groups. Extra Help If you need extra help or do not understand the science work, see me during homeroom, or during lunch. The school also provides extra science help and a homework club after school, which you can sign up for in the guidance office. September 6, 2006 RJK MIDDLE SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2006 SCIENCE GRADE 6 MR. REED / MS. BAUSENWEIN Supplies – You will need these materials by September 11th. 1. a 1 inch notebook for labs 2. a three ring binder for class notes, handouts, and tests Homework – 1. there is no excuse for not completing homework 2. homework counts as 10% of your grade 3. an assignment turned in late, unless the student is absent, will lose 10 points each day 4. after three days the assignment becomes a zero Headings – all papers turned in should have the following heading Name Date Science 6 – Mr. Reed / Ms. Bausenwein Period ___ Tests – 1. All chapter or unit tests are 30% of your grade 2. All tests will have multiple choice, true and false, completion, and short answer questions. 3. We will always review for each test the day before 4. The material on the test will come from the textbook, class notes, handouts, and study guides. Grading Policy – Chapter tests 30% Benchmark Exam 10% Projects and papers 15% Labs and Journals 20% Quizzes 10% Homework 10% Current events 5% Current Events – Every month you need to submit an article about a current event in science. You can select any topic related to science from the newspaper, internet, or a periodical. You must attach the article, or a copy of it, to your report. Your report should be between 100 – 150 words. You will be graded on content, grammar, neatness, and spelling. In your report you are to write in your own words a summary of the article and how it is related to science.
