We believe everyone deserves a safe, supportive, and orderly learning environment. We encourage appropriate behaviors by teaching, guiding, directing, and providing opportunities for new learning to occur. We create opportunities for students to practice and succeed in making responsible and effective choices in order to reach their academic potential and contribute to the school community. Student Responsibilities Attend school and all classes daily as scheduled. Follow the Student Code of Conduct. Be accepting of individual differences between people. Show respect by using respectful language and actions. Do not be a bystander when bullying and/or harassment occur. Report any bullying and/or harassment to an administrator. Respect the rights of other students, parents, faculty, staff, school visitors, school property and the property of others. Work hard and do your best. Work with all students regardless of race, color, and language. RESPECT Students will: Respect Staff, each other, and all property to ensure a positive and safe learning environment. Display appropriate behavior at all times. Cooperate with all school personnel. Use appropriate language. Avoid using sarcasm, gossip, belittling, or putting down of others. Move quietly through the building to avoid being a distraction to classrooms along the route. ACCOUNTABILITY Students will: Wear uniform to school (see the chart below). Arrive to school and to every class on time and be ready to work. Obtain proper passes from teachers to leave classrooms. Take proper care of textbooks, materials, and equipment. Remain on school property during school hours. Advise the school office, guidance, and nurse regarding changes of address, phone number, and emergency information on a consistent basis. Only use lockers upon arrival and at dismissal. Use electronic devices (Cellular phones, MP3 players, headphones, CD players, Ipods, games, etc.) until 8:25 in designated areas and in the Cafeteria during Lunch. They must be off and put away at all other times. Exit the building promptly at the ringing of the dismissal bell. COURAGE Students will: Be truthful and do what is right. Conduct themselves in a manner that allows the teachers to teach, and all students to learn. Strive for success and believe it is possible. Detention Lunch Detention: requires a student to report to and remain at the place designated by a teacher, team, or administrator. Lunch detentions will be held from Tuesday through Friday. Students will be under supervision at all times during detention. Lunch detention is a working detention. Students must bring a pen or pencil in order to complete the work. Students who are absent or tardy to detention or otherwise disruptive may be subject to further disciplinary action. d. After-School Detention (ASD) Students will be assigned after-school detention with an administrator or designee. The detention will be held from 2:55pm – 3:55 pm in a designated location. Work will be assigned. Students and parents will be notified of after-school detention by the administrator or teacher. e. Challenge Room Students who continually break school rules out of willful disobedience will be removed to the Challenge Room for a period of no less than one month. One on one instruction will be given to student as well as frequent interviews by counselors. A behavior plan will be created for students. Students will be expected to work, academically and behaviorally, towards removal from Challenge Room and reintegration into general school population. 6 f. I&RS Referral Students referred to Guidance Counselors for behavior plans within the district/school/classroom environment. Meetings are held with parents, counselors, Administrators, teachers, and students. Steps you must take before you refer a student to the I&RS Committee School Discipline Procedures: you must follow before submitting a referral to the Counseling Office Personalized Learning Plan Form o This form will be distributed to all students along with their Interim Grades. o This will allow students to reflect upon what they have to do to improve their grades II. The discipline system for handling major referrals is to follow the District Student Code of Conduct. III. If a student does not show up for ASD, the student will receive a Mandatory Parent Conference IV. All students returning from OSS: i. Shall be accompanied by a parent upon their return to school. ii. Follow Discipline Referral Progression System Post to Powerschool Routines Investigate thoroughly Obtain statement(s) from all parties involved. Contact Parent and advise of behavior. Record Parent contact in Logue. Record all meetings in Logue with brief description. Apprise all Administrators, Disciplinarians, Counselors, and pertinent teachers via email of Referral outcomes. Parent Conferences Contact Parent before scheduling in the event Parent is employed. Record time of contact and who spoken to in Logue Place PC form in Pending Folder Will be scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
