Glenluce Primary School Newsletter – Thursday 19th February 2015
I hope all the children enjoyed their mid-term break. Given that there are only two school days this week, this
newsletter will also cover next week.

Scots Night
The Scots night was a great success once again. I do not have the final figure of what was raised, but I must thank
everyone who supported this event in whatever capacity.
Nursery Enrolment
This takes place on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th February. All parents concerned should have received a
letter through the post with guidance on what they are required to bring.
Mini Kickers
Roddie Cookslie, S.F.A. coach, will be coming in to teach the P.1/2 children on Thursday morning for the next 6
weeks. Could the children ensure that they bring their P.E. equipment for these lessons?
Royal Operatic Group
The Royal Operatic Group are coming to work with our upper primary children. This will take place on Thursday
26th February. The event takes place from 10.00a.m. until 11.30a.m. Castle Kennedy and Drochduil will be
joining us for this experience.
Aiming for High
The P.7 children will be attending Castle Kennedy again this Friday afternoon as part of their transition process.
Tempest Photography
The photographer will be visiting the school on Tuesday 24th to take photographs of all the children. There will be
individual and family photographs. Please make sure that you return the slips if you wish a photograph to be taken.
Cross Country
The Active Schools team will be taking the P.5-7 children for cross country training. There will be a block of
lessons taking place on Tuesday afternoons from 2.00p.m. until 3.00p.m. These sessions commence on Tuesday
24th February. Can you please ensure that your children come with suitable kit for outdoor training on these
dates?
Achievement Wall
If any children win certificates or have photographs of something that they have been successful at, then we will
display it on the Achievement board. Achievement is as important as attainment to our children, and it is therefore
important that we focus on all the positive aspects of our pupils’ lives.
Netball League
The netball league commenced on Monday 2nd February and will run each week (excluding Monday 16th February)
until Monday 30th March 2015 at the Ryan Centre, Stranraer. If any parents are able to help transport the children

to and from the Ryan Centre then please contact the office. I must thank all the parents who have helped to date.
Football Training
Football will take place on Tuesday from 3.00 p.m. until 4.00 p.m.
Homework Club
This takes place on a Tuesday after school for those children who have signed up and returned their forms.
Drama Classes
Drama classes take place on Wednesday afternoons. All the children who have returned forms have places
assured. The club takes place from 3.00p.m. until 4.00p.m.
Rugby Training
Rugby starts again tonight, Thursday 19th February. It runs from 3.00p.m. until 4.00p.m. There is going to be a
World Cup event taking place this session, so it will give our team the opportunity to play contact rugby
competitively. Rugby will not take place next Thursday 26th February, as I am away at Dumfries Campus
interviewing potential students.
Scots Singing Practice
Mrs Hart takes a group of children after school on a Thursday. This runs from 3.00p.m. until 3.45p.m. Mrs Hart
will not be able to take this class next week, Thursday 26th, but the session will take place the following week,
Thursday 5th March.
School Uniform
It has been drawn to my attention that there have been a number of cases recently where there has been slippage in
school uniform. It is important that we set and maintain a standard. I know as a parent this is not always easy, but
given that Stranraer Academy is moving towards blazers and shirts/ties, we may as well get the children into the
habit now.
I trust you will support me in ensuring that our children all look at least as smart as they are!!
Head Lice
This problem, like in many schools, is never far away. It is important to ensure that you continue treating your
child until there is no sustained evidence that head lice are present. Further guidance is available from the school.

I really appreciate all your support with our school. If there are any issues or questions that you wish answered, then please
feel welcome to contact me at any time. If you have any suggestions appropriate to the Parent Council or P.T.A., then your
opinions and views are always appreciated. We are also always looking for new members for both these organizations and
indeed everyone should feel welcome to attend.
Kindest regards,
James D. Ferguson.
