PREAMBLE The Southern Adelaide Health Service (Southern Health) was established in 2004. It brought together Flinders Medical Centre, Noarlunga Health Services and Drug and Alcohol Services Council. It includes Population & Primary Health Care, Southern Mental Health and Southern Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, and works closely with other health providers in the southern area. Repatriation General Hospital, a public teaching hospital, formally joined Southern Health in July 2008, further consolidating the working relationship formed over the past four years. With an annual budget in excess of $500M, Southern Health provides care for around 330,000 people living in the southern metropolitan area of Adelaide as well as providing a number of statewide services, and services to those in the regional areas. More than 7,000 skilled staff provide high quality patient care, education, research and health promoting services. 2. SUMMARY OF THE BROAD PURPOSE OF THE POSITION and its responsibilities/duties The Clinical Tutor is accountable to the Director of Nutrition & Dietetics and takes overall academic and professional responsibility for dietetic students on clinical placement. The position is funded by Flinders University of South Australia (FUSA) and is located at the Repatriation General Hospital (RGH). 3. REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS (to whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation) Accountable and responsible to the Director of Nutrition & Dietetics. Liaises with the Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Programs FUSA regarding academic policy, procedure and quality and also contributes as a member of the Clinical Placement Team. 4. May be required to work within other locations of the Southern Adelaide Health Service. Some out of hours work may be required. Ensure that the clinical dietetic placement program at RGH for students from the BND and MND courses at FUSA is efficiently managed and offers a high standard of teaching by: Undertaking program planning and development. Undertaking day to day coordination and management, including clinical teaching, supervision and assessment for students. Coordinating supervision of students. Providing support to students at risk or in difficulty, including clinical learning contracts and organisation/supervision of remedial supplementary placements. Supporting RGH staff who are supervising students. Contribute as a member of the Clinical Placement Program (CPP) team, working with the Coordinator and the Clinical Tutors at the other teaching sites by: Conducting clinical support tutorials for all students on clinical placement Providing training and skill development in teaching and learning for clinical placements for all practitioners undertaking or wishing to undertake student supervision. Developing and documenting relevant policies and procedures that meet Dietitians Association of Australia and FUSA requirements. Ensure overall quality of the CPP, including teaching and learning methods and assessment. Sharing the support of students at risk at subsidiary sites where possible. Contributes to the development and evaluation of innovative approaches to clinical placements by: Keeping up to date with current knowledge of the literature and practice relating to clinical placements. Conducting research in the area of clinical teaching and assessment. Advocate for the Clinical Placement Program (CPP) within RGH by: Collaborating with other disciplines at RGH involved in practicum teaching. Contributing to service development that will support and strengthen potential clinical learning opportunities at RGH Contribute to the ongoing development of high quality dietetic services to inpatients and outpatient of RGH by providing clinical dietetic consultation and counselling according to departmental policies and procedures. Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of best practice guidelines in order to improve the standards of service provided to clients. Ensure that departmental records and statistics are kept.
