INDIAN DIETETIC ASSOCIATION DIETETICS DAY 10th January 2014 Theme: “A Healthy Foundation for a Healthy Tomorrow” Dietetics Day IDA plans to celebrate “Dietetics Day” on 10 January every year to coincide with its date of inception. This day will be marked by nationwide activities to promote a particular theme. All chapters will organize activities on 10th January focusing on the following themes/sub themes. Multiple activities in schools, colleges, hospitals etc are being planned. The theme for 10 January 2014 is “A Healthy Foundation for a Healthy Tomorrow” 1. Eat a variety of foods including plenty of vegetables and fruits 2. Ensure moderate use of edible oils and animal foods and very less use of ghee / butter/ vanaspati. 3. Restrict salt and sugar intake to minimum. 4. Minimize the use of processed foods rich in salt, sugar and fats. 5. Avoid overeating and exercise regularly to prevent overweight and obesity. 6.Promote exclusive breastfeeding for six months and feed home based semi solid foods to the infant after six months. 7. Ensure adequate and appropriate diets for pregnant and nursing mother, children and adolescents.
