Relay Control Relay Control -- Introduction Two-position control, using a digital (relay) output, is used to turn something on and off. We use a differential and an offset to tell an output when to open and close based on the control variable and setpoint. Relay Control -- Definitions • Differential – amount of change in the control variable from when the output turns on to when it turns off • Offset – a value that creates a deadband for a stage – the first stage typically has an offset of 0 Offsets and Differentials, 2 Setpoints "COOLING" or "HIGH ALARM" Differential Output turns ON Output turns OFF Offset Cool Setpoint Offset Heat Setpoint Differential Output turns OFF Output turns ON "HEATING" or "LOW ALARM" Offsets, Differentials and Deadband, 1 Setpoint "COOLING" or "HIGH ALARM" Differential Output turns ON Output turns OFF Offset Deadband Setpoint Deadband Offset Differential Output turns OFF Output turns ON "HEATING" or "LOW ALARM" Used on the SZ1025b and SZ1143b Proportional Control Proportional Control -- Introduction Analog outputs are called modulating outputs. These outputs vary based on how far the input is away from setpoint. Modulating outputs provide tighter control than two position outputs. Proportional Control -- Definitions • Proportional Control – generates an output that is related to the distance between the active setpoint and the input • Proportional Band/Throttling Range – number of degrees (or percent of span) that the input must change to drive the output from 0 to 100% (either 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA) Proportional Control -- Definitions • Setpoint Offset – a value that creates a deadband before modulation starts • Aquastat – allows the action to reverse when a digital input is made (SZ1017a, SZ1018, SZ1143b, SZ1051) or an analog input exceeds a certain value (SZ1025a, SZ1018, SZ1062, SZ1064) Proportional Control -- Definitions • Direct Acting – the output increases as the input increases • Reverse Acting – the output decreases as the input increases Direct Acting Direct Acting - Output 12mA @ Setpoint Input Setpoint + 1/ 2 P } Setpoint Setpoint - 1/ 2 P 4m A 12m A 20m A Output P Reverse Acting 4m A 12m A 20m A Reverse Acting - Output 12mA @ Output Setpoint Input Setpoint + 1/ 2 P } Setpoint Setpoint - 1/ 2 P 4m A 12m A 20m A Output P Direct Acting - Output 4 or 20mA @ Setpoint Cooling } } P PSetpoint + 1/ 2P nt Setpoint 12m 4m A 4m A 20m 12mAA Input P Setpoint + P PSetpoint + 1/ 2 P Setpoint Input Setpoint Setpoint - P Setpoint - P 12m 4m A 4m A Input } } 20m 12mAA P Setpoint P 20m A Output Output P } Setpoint - 1/ 2P Setpoint - 1/ 2P 20m A Output ut P Direct Acting Setpoint + P rse Acting P Input Direct Acting Input rse Acting ut Heating Ou Input Setpoint Setpoint - 1/ 2 P Setpoint - 1/ 2 P } P Direct Acti Direct Acti } } } P Reverse Acting -POutput 4 or 20mA @ SetpointP 2PSetpoint + 1/ 2P Setpoint 12m 4m A 20m 12mAA 20m A Output Cooling ut Input P Setpoint + P } } 12m 4m A 20m 12mAA Output 20m A Output 12m 4m A 4m A Heating Output P Setpoint 4m A Setpoint - P Input PSetpoint + 1/ 2 P int Setpoint - P P Reverse Acting 4m A Reverse Acting int Setpoint - 1/ 2P Setpoint - 1/ 2P Setpoint 20m 12mAA Output Ou Input Setpoint } Setpoint - 1/ 2 P Setpoint - 1/ 2 P Setpoint - P 20m A Setpoint - P 4m A 12m 4m A 20m 12mAA Output P 20m A Ou Keypad Programming Thermostat Keypad Layout Occupied Heating Cooling fan switch service status Fan Service Program/ Data WARMER system switch COOLER program setup clock setup SZ1060 Series Keypad Layout Comparison of Thermostat Keypads Occupied Heating Cooling fan switch service status Fan Service Program/ Data WARMER system switch COOLER program setup clock setup Typical Superstat™ Keypad SZ1060 Series Keypad SL1001a & SZ1140 Series Keypad Layout SCROLL NEXT UP DOWN Conventional Thermostats • Menu-by-Menu Example – Follow Along Using Demo Panel – Slides Printed in Handout – Catalog Page 183 • All Thermostats Basically the Same • Complete Sequences in Product Manuals • All Sequences in Product Catalog • www.tcsbasys.com SZ-QD Trainer Demo Panel (SZ1031) p ro g ra m s e tu p 248 always works!!! p ro g ra m s e tu p Use down arrow to get to 248 more quickly.
