LOGOS
• A Well to Ship supervisory, control and data
acquisition system (SCADA)
• Provides Authorities with a precise knowledge
of the entire crude oil transfer process
• Measures both the quantity and quality of the
crude oil and gasses.
• Authorities have real-time information about well
production, inventory, and custody transfer hundreds of miles from the process.
• By providing a precise measurement, in real-time, across the well to ship process, the
LOGOS system overcomes many of the challenges of Crude Oil and Gas Production,
Transportation, and Storage.

Well Head Production Analysis
• CHALLENGE! Multiple production points supply oil
to the main pipeline with crude oil flow rates and
densities that vary based on what wells are
producing at one given time.
• CHALLENGE! These variations, along with different
contaminants in the oil (sand, entrained gas), create a
challenging environment for maintaining measurement accuracy.
• CHALLENGE! The requirement for daily over/under pipeline balance accounting requires
sustainable flow measurement accuracy at every connection to the pipeline in addition to
the required accuracy of the main line meter.
• CHALLENGE! Maintaining pipeline gathering throughput is critical to meet demand and
any need to drain the line to remove equipment from operation involves costly
maintenance and oil disposal procedures.

Crude Oil Well Head Production Analysis
• SOLUTION! Coriolis mass flow meter provides a precise picture of the
quantity and quality of crude delivered from the well.
• SOLUTION! Coriolis meter is not damaged by slugs of air/gas or by sand
in the oil which reduces the likelihood of measurement performance
degradation or having to stop pipeline flow to perform maintenance.
This increases the availability of the pipeline to transport oil, reduces
maintenance and eliminates the need for added meter proving.
• SOLUTION! Remote/local diagnostics, including advanced features
such as meter factor validation or coating detection, can eliminate
the need to empty the line for visual inspection.
• SOLUTION! Ability to accurately measure density
provides a needed variable for standard volume
calculation and a process variable that can monitor
crude oil quality and/or interface detection.
• SOLUTION! All information is transferred digitally
for real-time communication with the central station.

Gas Well Head Production Analysis
• SOLUTION! Utilize a differential pressure measurement
technique. This multi-variable system will derive temperature,
density, and absolute pressure measurements in addition to the
gas flow rate. Thus it provides a mass flow rate and mass total.
• SOLUTION! For Wellheads with water content, System can
utilize a hydrostatic gauging system placed on the separator for
measurement of water collection rates.
• SOLUTION! At the Compressor Station, use the same Coriolis
method.
• SOLUTION! Method allows for characterization in two phase
flows involving some portion of the gas in its liquid state
providing an unparalleled precision in the gas production
measurement.

Pipeline Leak and Theft Detection
for Gas or Crude Oil
• CHALLENGE! Pipeline operators face the potential of leaks that
statistically occur once every 20 years on short lines and every
year on pipelines over 1000 miles long.
• CHALLENGE! Economic loss (Property Damage and Theft)
• CHALLENGE! Safety (fires, explosions, injuries and fatalities)
• CHALLENGE! environment (uncontained hazardous materials)
are serious. SOLUTION! Quick response and an estimate of
location and size of the leak/theft will minimize the overall damages incurred.
• SOLUTION! Install the ACT-LOGOS system at the end of the pipeline, as well as,
intermediate metering stations.
• SOLUTION! Because the accuracy of measurement is so precise, the central system can
alert the pipeline operator and other authorities that either a leak or theft is occurring.

Tank Farm Inventory Monitoring
• CHALLENGE! Inventory of Stored Crude & Gas
• CHALLENGE! Quality of Stored Crude & Gas
• SOLUTION! Continuously monitors the inventory of
the storage tanks.
• SOLUTION! Store the data received from the pipeline
and well head sub-systems
Method #1
• SOLUTION! Provide the authority with knowledge of
the quantity of oil as well as its characteristics like %
of water and solids. If the automatic sampling system
is installed, the LOGOS system will present further
data on the stored crude such as sulfur content.

Method #1: Hydrostatic Tank
Gauging for Oil or Liquified Gas
• The system utilizes a hydrostatic tank gauging (HTG) technique
which offers direct mass measurement.
• Can be deployed on any tank geometry as well as pressurized
tanks for LNG’s.
• A transmitter near the bottom of the tank measures the
static head of the liquid caused by its height and density.
A transmitter on the roof of the tank may be required to
compensate for the products vapor pressure. Total
volume is thus determined by the function of liquid
weight, vapor pressure, and tank geometry.
• Density is determined by adding a second pressure transmitter at a known distance
above the main transmitter. By measuring the difference in pressure coupled with the
known distance between the transmitters, the density at the temperature is determined.
• Temperature used to correct the density to API standard temperature.
• Conductivity probe will provide water levels in the tank.

Method #2:
Servo Tank Gauging for Liquids
• Method is an intelligent tank gauge for high accuracy liquid level
measurement.
• Gauge can determine the interfaces between three liquids,
specific gravity of these liquids and tank bottom.
• System is based on the principle of displacement measurement.
A small displacer is accurately positioned in the liquid medium
using a servo motor. The displacer is suspended on a measuring
wire that is wound onto a finely grooved drum housing within
the instrument. The drive motor is actuated to balance the
voltage generated by the variations of magnetic flux to equal the
reference voltage defined by the operating command. When the
displacer is lowered and touches the liquid, the weight of the
displacer is reduced because of the buoyant force of the liquid.
As the liquid level rises and falls, the position of the displacer is
adjusted by the driven motor. The rotation of the wire drum is
precisely evaluated to determine the level value, which is
accurate to an outstanding +/- 0.7 mm.

Custody Transfer for Oil or Gas
• CHALLENGE! Whenever Petroleum changes custody from
one supplier to the next, it must be accurately measured
and scrupulously accounted for.
• CHALLENGE! Custodians and regulatory agencies alike
have an interest in making sure that transactions are
equitable.
• CHALLENGE! Meters used for custody transfer must first comply with the applicable OIML
(International Organization of Legal Metrology) standards.
• CHALLENGE! Loading facilities go from stop to full flow quickly and may contain air in the
line or hose.
• CHALLENGE! Knowledge of the quality of oil being loaded is necessary to suspend
operation if restrictions on water content are not met.

Custody Transfer for Oil or Gas
• SOLUTION! The specified flowmeters are compliant with the following:
OIML R-117 (Measuring systems for liquids other than water), OIML R115 (Direct mass flow measuring system for quantities of liquids), and
OIML R-81 (Dynamic measuring devices for cryogenic liquids).
• SOLUTION! The specified meters have no moving parts that can be
damaged by high velocities of oil resulting from a fast loading
operation or slugs of air.
• SOLUTION! Density can be used to detect excess
water and/or air which can automatically stop the
loading process.
• SOLUTION! Mass, volume, flow-weighted averages,
and instantaneous flowing density are measured in
a single device thus providing custody transfer flow
measurement, weight of the load, and quality
monitoring.

Automatic Sampling System
• Custody transfer includes an option for obtaining pipeline samples for further analysis.
• Automated system collects three samples from the pipeline in sequence. One from the
bottom, one from the center, and one from the top of the pipe in order to ensure the
sample is representative.
• Samples are passed through a small flow measurement device to ensure that they are of
equal volume and sent to a removable vessel. The vessel is then carried to the lab for
further analysis.
• Software system allows the operator to manually initiate a sample or the program will
collect the sample(s) at transferred volume points.
Online Water in Oil Analysis
• Plumbed into the pipeline at the well head, tank farm manifold, or custody transfer point
in order to enhance the knowledge of the product.
• Measure both free and saturated water and has internal temperature compensation.
• Sampled and returned to the pipeline stream continuously.
• Responds very quickly to a change dielectric of the oil being monitored.
• Not affected limited by the saturation point of the liquid.
