Project: David Witherspoon 901 and 1630 Site
Remediation; Tennessee Division of Superfund

Remediation of contaminated scrap metal recycling
facility (901) and commercial landfill (1630)
Primary contaminants included uranium, polychlorinated
biphenyls, and heavy and TCLP metals.
Actions included removing, treating, and disposing of rad
contaminated scrap metal and debris, equipment, soil,
and sediment, and demolishing facilities.
$35 million remediation project
As Task Order Manager for environmental management,
Alliant provided:
– CERCLA and RCRA compliance
– Regulatory interface, both state and federal
– Medical and biological waste management; RCRA waste
management, characterization, treat, and disposal; cultural
and natural resource studies; NEPA reviews and compliance;
and field coordination
– Innovative site characterization strategies, saving
approximately $5 million in disposal alone
