Open Access In Serbia Ana Ivković, Sanja Antonić, Vedran Vučić Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Univerzitetska biblioteka “Svetozar Marković”Serbia, GnuLinux Centre In the world of science, Open Access journals are taking a significant place. Open Access is breaking all technical and financial barriers in our scientific society. Copyright is no longer a restriction when approaching scientific information, which is a very expensive process of research and development of science. Obviously, copyright is a pendulum that moves between respect for creators and monopolies over rights to freely use, create, modify and distribute certain goods and services. The use of copyright gives publishers the exclusive rights to own the paper and sell for their own prices. Free information, free publishing, discussion and peer reviews are benefits of Open Access. Could librarians change things with a different approach? How to convince our scientists to use Open Access when the present system of evaluation is so “locked “and fully depending on Thompson Reuters and Impact Factor? Our colleagues abroad advice us to promote Open Access and motivate our researchers to use advantages of it. For librarians that promotion means putting a lot of effort in it, but motivation is not charged for – it is free, as the Open Access is. We intend to continue our combat for free information policies and free society in Serbia. analauda@gmail.com
