Objective
► Education makes human able to visualize the universe like a
mirror.
► School education is essential like our nutrients & oxygen, but
higher education should be more objective.
► Higher education policy is to be framed in a country keeping in
mind
The demand of the nation
The direction of progress of human civilization
The global socio-economic changes with time
The optimum utilization of natural resources

Present Status
►‘Primary
education for all’ campaign has gained momentum and
free education at secondary and higher secondary level is being
practiced for several decades - these are the encouraging features
of our society.
► Recent provision of Right to Education (RTE) Act for free and
compulsory education to children will strengthen the process.
► But the education in general courses at graduate and postgraduate level is aimless in our system without any definite goal
for the taught vis-à-vis the nation.
► More attention is needed for education policy to be reformed to
make higher education
in general courses meaningful with a goal.

Societal Requirements
►Though the basic purpose of education is to enlighten the society
with all the facts and figures around us, but it must also cater to the
needs of the society.
► Education in general courses should not always be oriented to
the generation of teachers/secretaries/officers/clerks only, must be
aimed also in designing the persons for other spheres.
► The society demands one, but the institutes produce another,
making the process less fruitful.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT
► The course curriculum needs to be more skill oriented at the
higher education level keeping in mind the societal requirements.
► The vast human resource engaged in education of general
courses at graduate level is actually being transformed mostly into
useless ‘knowledge-bin’, not utilized for national growth.
►Establishment of Community College / Extension of potential
departments of the existing college for the purpose may be
explored.
► In everyday life we are deficient of professionals whom we
actually need, though the society is being ornamented with
graduates, post-graduates and even doctorates.
