Registration Tip Sheet
Tips for Registration of Incoming 9th Grade Students
1. Make sure you list three alternate classes in case we can’t fulfill all of your elective choices.
Alternate classes must be different than your required classes, or others you have already
selected.
2. Consider taking classes from a variety of departments (i.e. Industrial Technology, Business, Family
and Consumer Science, Music).
3. Math recommendations have been made by the middle school staff. If in doubt, ask your math
teacher.
4. Introduction to Computer Applications/Digital Citizenship or Computer Applications/Digital
Citizenship is a required course to graduate. Most students take it as a 9th grader.
5. World Language is not required to graduate from high school. World language is required for most
students attending a four year college. You will need to take four trimesters of the same language
during your years at CIHS. Students with strong English skills will probably be successful in World
Language as a 9th grader. World Language teachers recommend starting in your freshman year.
If you register for a World Language class, you MUST register for both the A and B sections.
6. Band and/or Choir is a year long course. Each class is worth 1.5 credits for the year.
7. Remember: Once you make your request for a class, it is very difficult to make changes. Think
carefully about your selections.
Reminder: Student should register for 14-15 credits AND 3 Alternate choices
 Students not taking band or choir will register for 15 credits
 Students taking band or choir will register for 14.5 credits.
 Students taking band and choir will register for 15 credits
