Presentation for XYZ School 1 What is Relay Recess? ◘ It is part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life global event, tailored specifically for an elementary school. ◘ An opportunity to unite students, school personnel, parents with the American Cancer Society and the Relay community to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays ◘ Relay Recess is unique and flexible to fit any school culture ◘ Relay Recess engages students to: 1. be educated on cancer prevention 2. fundraise to help others in the community 3. be more physically active 2 Why Relay Recess? A Character-building, community service and leadership activity. ◘ Students work alongside adult coordinators ◘ Students honor those who have had cancer ◘ Students connect with the local community Relay For Life ◘ Students will continue to have leadership and volunteer opportunities – middle school, high school and college with Relay For Life Creating a healthier generation ◘ Students will be engaged in fun activities about the benefits of nutrition, physical activity, sun safety, and tobacco prevention ◘ Relay Recess spotlights childhood nutrition because it has been proven that obesity will be as likely to cause cancer as tobacco for the students of today. ◘ Most smokers start smoking by the time they leave grade school. 3 Why Relay Recess?
