Doing the Impossible in 2015! Matthew 14:23-33 (NIV) “After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear… Doing the Impossible in 2015! But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Doing the Impossible in 2015! Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Doing the Impossible in 2015! Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us”. Doing the Impossible in 2015! • The Bible is not just a selection of stories it is our guide for life! • Jesus said “I am the same, yesterday, today and forever.” Doing the Impossible in 2015! • There is a difference between doing great things and doing the impossible! • Feeding of the 5000 (Matthew 14:15-21). Doing the Impossible in 2015! •Inspired by what Jesus had done previously Peter made his step of faith! Doing the Impossible in 2015! Here are four things that Peter did that will help us to believe for our miracle in 2015: • 1. Ask specifically • 2. Do it despite the conditions • 3. God never does the impossible with somebody who has a plan B. • 4. Take the step of faith. Doing the Impossible in 2015! 1. Ask specifically • Peter asked to walk on water. He said "Lord command me to come to you on the water." • What's impossible in your life? The Bible says,"You have not because you ask not" (James 4.2). Too many people have never asked God for the impossible. Doing the Impossible in 2015! 2. Do it despite the conditions • So often we want the right conditions before we do things for God. Worse still we excuse ourselves because of the wrong conditions. • We need to believe for the impossible despite our conditions. Doing the Impossible in 2015! 3. God never does the impossible with somebody who has a plan B. • To have two plans or a back-up plan is called double-mindedness. The Bible says that the double-minded man will receive nothing from the Lord (James 1:8). • Peter had no plan B. He did not stay close to the boat or ask Jesus to come closer. He headed out into the middle of the sea. He burned his bridges! Doing the Impossible in 2015! 4. Take the step of faith. • Peter got out of the boat. Someone once said, "It is better to be a wet-water walker than a dry-boat sitter". Most Christians don't want to walk on water they just want a better seat in the boat. • As we come for our anointing this morning let us believe God for the impossible in 2015!
