Study of the Holy Spirit Broward Midweeks Lesson One: Introduction Forgotten God • Matthew 11:28-29 – Great promise of God – To all weary and burdened – Rest for our souls – Have to take His yoke and learn from Him – What does that mean? Forgotten God • Jesus is Lord: What are we saying we will be submissive to and obey? • Gospels: – Matt. 5:16-17- good lives that say “God” – Matt. 5: 20- greater than Pharisees – Matt. 5:22- angry with brother? – Matt, 5: 28-29- lust? – Matt.5:44-48- love enemy and be perfect? Forgotten God • Matt. 6:25- do not worry. • Matt.6:33- seek first • Luke 17:3-5- forgive brother every time he says “I repent.” Forgotten God • Epistles: – Ephesians 4:1-3- be completely humble and gentle – Philippians 2:3-5- consider others more important than self – 1 John 2:15-17- Do not love ANYTHING in this world. How do these expectations make us feel? Forgotten God The Promise of Jesus: John 14:12: What does God’s son say??? All who believe – all who have true FAITH -will do greater things than He did! Discussion Questions ① What is your initial reaction to the book as you read it? ② How much do you feel you know about the Holy Spirit and its work in our lives from the Scripture? ③ What Scriptures about the Holy Spirit do you know? List them (book, chapter, verse) WITHOUT looking at a concordance or references. ④ What about your life can you point to that you can say that it is only because the Holy Spirit is working in your life? When is the last time you shared that (or those things) with another brother or sister in fellowship? A discipling time? ⑤ When is the last time you shared about the Holy Spirit working in your life when studying with a non-Christian? Next week’s lesson: “I’ve got Jesus.
