Design Process
Once customer needs and project concerns
were established, ideas were developed to
create a solution.
Narrowed list based on key points.
- needed permanent power source. No
batteries to replace.
- hidden behind switch plate
- energy efficient. Only on when needed.

Used the CIA method to narrow our
choices to three.
Took best features from each remaining
idea to combine into our product
design.
Among these were;
- hard-wired to household electricity.
- LED behind the switch plate bright
enough to shine through.
- photo cell to ensure energy efficiency.

Created Gantt-chart to determine
remaining steps and to set dead lines.
Divided up the remaining work load
and set to developing a prototype.
Through some circuitry tinkering, the
prototype team came up with an alpha
and beta prototype.

The prototype works by turning on the LED in
the absence of ambient light.
This controller is
based on a LM358
operational
amplifier, resistors,
and a photocell all
running on 12VDC.
