Everybody wants to rule the world
• Globalism is fundamental to CTs
• If CTs are about connecting to explain, then,
doing so beyond the nation is inevitable and
even necessary – about power, world power,
subversion.
• So CTs have a history related to History
– Reality of monarchial power
– Fears engendered by overturning of such power - the
French Revolution and its export
• Is why the grand-daddy are the Bavarian
“Illuminati” founded by Adam Weishaupt, 1776
• Not tied to ignorance. Illuminati as in 8th C
Enlightenment. Saw secrecy as necessary
Vision of the Secret Elite
• The Illuminati – as a general term now
• Freemasons & Rosicrucians (often tied to
religious issues, eg claim that the Masons are
secretly Satanic
• Signs and symbols (their ID card)
• Jews (Protocols of the Elders of Zion forgery)
• Communists - John Birch Society
• “One World” Internationalists
– CFR, Trilateral Commission, the United Nations
• Corporate power
– The Bilderberg Group
– World Economic Forum meet in Davos
– Bohemian Grove , the owls and the cremation of care
The New World Order
• The phrase “new world order” is a staple of
these “globalist” conspiracy theories
• It is not their invention – track back the term
• A version appears on the dollar bill…(the New
Order of the Ages)
• Was used most often recently by elder George
Bush following close of Cold War, especially at
the first Gulf War 1991
• Spoke to a real change post Cold War
• But mere use served as confirmation of old CTs
– as if the corner of curtain had been lifted
• Is rarely used now by US authorities, but…
Reaction: American Patriots
• Militias were a striking phenomenon of the post
Cold War 1990s, amidst globalisation – focused
selves on threat of a “New World Order”
• Used historic model to create small connected
organisations – the Militia (by State)…
• Narrative of subversion of US Govt, UN control
and “invasion” of USA (eg 1994 Donahue)
• Often held fundamentalist Christian - Libertarian
outlook, Survivalist and “End Times” focused
• Have largely faded from the scene – only a few
survive though some revival post Obama, eg the
Oathkeepers
Left Wing New World Order
• As both a counter and complementary trend
• Similar focus on global control and often similar
villains, though focus more on corporate
• For instance, WTO – the Battle of Seattle 1999
• Other meetings since, eg London, Washington,
Prague.
• May Day has been adopted anew.
• Environmentalist accent – oil corps
• Noam Chomsky seer – essential vision is of
governmental/corporate deceit - a “New World’s
Order” (aka American power, McDonalds, the
Iraq War, Oil, etc)
• Fears of new order of technology
Reality of Globalism
• In an interconnected, inter-related world, we can
see NWO CTs as a shadow, mirror, a narrative
that seeks to render the complex contained and
comprensible, when other stories don’t satisfy
• No doubt that the powerful do organise and align
(eg Bilderberg meetings do happen); power
does unite and secretly (corporate fraud)
• Contemporary examples of locale
– Climate change as conspiracy
– Recent financial crises
• But are CTs about the global a potential moment
of new activism or are they a fantasy distraction?

– Doyen of modern NWO conspiracists
– Sites show fantastic degree of detail and
interconnection, weave their narrative
– Often based on using news and things which
are true, then given a NWO spin/implication
– Hard not to disagree with fragments?
