A guide for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro! By Brooke Keith 6CL Preparation ... Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s highest mountains. In fact, it is the tallest mountain in Africa! So in order for you to tackle it, you will need to spend some time at a special training camp to prepare yourself for some of the harsh conditions that you will have to face for example... Harsh Conditions... 1.Rocky surfaces will have to be walked on. 2.The air at the top of the mountain will be very thin compared to what you are used to breathing in. 3.You will have to get up very early each morning in order to get as much walking done as possible. 4.You will always be sleeping in very simple and basic cabins. Will the high altitude affect me? As you climb higher on your journey to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the air will become thinner. Therefore, you will find it harder to breathe(this is one of the many reasons that you will have to spend some time preparing yourself at a special camp!)At the top of the mountain(5,895m)there is half the amount of oxygen then there is at sea level! SO BE PREPARED!! clothing! When climbing Mount Kilimanjaro it is very important that you have the correct clothing to travel with so you will need to bring... Hat, scarf, gloves, waterproof coat with a hood, very woolly fleece, warm tshirt, very warm, cosy and comfortable trousers, 2 pairs of socks for each day and a pair of firm- grip Equipment! It is also very important that when climbing, you have these few necessary items with you. Such as... A sleeping bag(with a liner),your clothes(obviously!)and a stick to help you walk (or two) Wildlife! Whilst climbing you will also be fascinated by all of the amazing and beautiful creatures of the wildlife and some of them might look like this... my wildlife montage!!!
