WINTER OUTDOOR ADVENTURE ED
ICE CLIMBING TRIP
Date: Tuesday, February 12, 2013
Location: Robinson Park, Sandstone, MN
approx. 1 hour, 40 min. from school
Students will have the opportunity to climb natural ice flow under the supervision
of Apex Adventures AMGA certified climbing guides. All climbing gear will be
supplied by the Apex and top ropes will be anchored by Apex staff.
Lunch: Students need to bring any snacks and drinks they want. You may bring a bag
lunch or buy a lunch when we make a stop on our way to the park.
Required Clothing/Gear:
Snowboots to wear when not climbing – no tennis shoes.
Snowboard or downhill ski boots if you have them.
3 Layers – wicking/close to skin, insulating, and wind/weather barrier
Warm socks, thick or 2 layers
Winter/Ski gloves or mittens
Goggles or sunglasses
Sunscreen for your face
Hat
Optional: scarf, blanket
Back-pack for carrying clothing
Water bottle (with water), granola bar type snack
Itinerary:
 7:30 a.m. -- departure from the athletic lot at WHS. Transportation will be in
private vehicles. All cars will drive together following the lead
chaperone/teacher.
 9:45 – ~ 2:00 Climbing (and Lunch)
 2:15 Departure for WHS/home
 4:00 Arrival at WHS/home
Supervision: The class will be accompanied by the instructor, Ms. Nancy Icopini. Cell

Cost: $15 for the ice climbing experience. It is expected that passengers offer to
help pay gas expenses.

To attend the ice climbing field trip, riding in a private/student driven and that emergency treatment
provided by a qualified physician or emergency medical personnel may be given in the event of an
accident or emergency. Permission is furthermore given to release this document and the information
it contains to a qualified physician or emergency medical personnel in the event my child, is unable to
provide such information and emergency medical treatment is required.
When school staff, parents, or students use their private automobiles to transport students, the liability
insurance policy on the owner of the vehicle is considered the primary coverage. The District’s
liability insurance coverage provides secondary coverage for bodily injury legal liability.
