David – Conquering Giants

What do Giants look like?
David vs. Goliath
(I Samuel 17)
“This day I defy the ranks of Israel! Give me a man
and let us fight each other” – I Samuel 17:10
Why did David want
to stand against
Goliath?
What odds
do you give
yourself
against the
Goliath in
your life?
Facing Giants
“Every morning and evening for
40 days the Philistine came
forward and took his stand.” – I
Samuel 17:16
“When Saul and all Israel heard
these words from the Philistine, they
lost their courage and were
terrified.” – I Samuel 17:11
Facing Giants
• David saw and heard more: “David spoke
to the men who were standing with
him: “What will be done for the man
who kills that Philistine and removes
this disgrace from Israel? Just who is
this uncircumcised Philistine that he
should defy the armies of the living
God?”” – I Samuel 17:26
Facing Giants
• David shows up discussing God.
– The Soldiers never spoke His name, David’s
brothers never spoke His name, but that is the
first thing David brings up.
– When we face our giants, is God the first thing
that comes to our mind?
– David, in his plea to King Saul, only talks
about what God has done.
• I Samuel 17:31-37
– David continues this theme with Goliath.
• I Samuel 17:45-47
