California, Berkeley
• Originally trained as a painter but turned to
sculpture and other media
Work
• Interest in task-oriented, gamelike projects
that resulted in viewer-interactive sculptures
• Developed after seeing the work of La Monte
Young and Simone Forti
• Boxes for Meaningless Work

• Moved to new York in 1960
• Early sculptures influenced by Dada and other
art movements
• Eventually worked with other materials like
stainless steel and aluminum
