• On a whiteboard, put the following events in order based on your knowledge of cell division (mitosis)
– A) Spindle fibers attach to the chromatids at the centromere; chromosomes appear at the equator of the cell
– B) Two new nuclei form and chromosomes unwind into chromatin
– C) Centrioles and spindle fibers appear and begin to move to the poles; chromatin condenses into chromosomes
(easier to move around the cell)
– D) Chromatids separate and begin to move to opposite ends of the cell (poles)

• Step 1
– Fold your paper in half length wise (hot dog)
• Step 2
– Fold your paper in half twice from top to bottom
(create quarters)
• Step 3
– Unfold and cut each quarter through the front panel only (see Mr. Tran’s example for help)
• Step 4
– On each front flap, list the 4 phases of mitosis
• Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase (PMAT)
• Step 5
– On the inside of each flap, list the key events/steps that occur in that phase (check notes/videos)
• Ex. Prophase- Mitosis begins, centrioles and spindle fibers appear and begin to move to opposite sides of the cell, chromatin condenses into chromosomes
• Step 6
– On the opposite side, draw a picture of a cell in that phase
(be sure to label the structures listed on the whiteboard)

• Tomorrow
– Mitosis review
• Friday
– Mitosis Quiz
• Mitosis flip books may be edited based on today’s activity and help from Mr. Tran and turned in by Friday (before quiz)
