Community Safety Partnerships where established under
the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 which was amended by
the Police and Justice Act 2006.
The 1998 Act sets out who the responsible authorities are
and the various duties. Section 17 of the Crime and
Disorder Act 1998, as amended by the Police and Justice
Act 2006, requires responsible authorities to consider
crime and disorder (including anti-social behaviour and
other behaviour adversely affecting the local environment):
and the misuse of drugs, alcohol and other substances in
the exercise of all their duties, activities and decision
making.
This means that in all policies, strategies and service
delivery there is a need to consider the likely impact of
crime and disorder. The Act also saw the establishment of
the Youth Offending Service.






Outcome One - Rebuild and improve public confidence
in policing and maintaining community safety.

Outcome Three - Break the cycle of domestic and gender-based abuse by
working in partnership to promote healthy and safe relationships

The Council fund the post of Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator, which is based with
Haringey Police. Historically NHWs focused on their local street/area, but the
Coordinator now actively encourages NHWs to ‘adopt’ their local green space
374 Neighbourhood Watch coordinators are in communication with the Coordinator on a
regular basis, who in turn disseminates information to their members.
13% of NHW coordinators are not on email and are communicated with by post or phone
244 Watches (78%) have completed the new NHW registration form; leaving 68 Watches
(22%) still to complete the form. This form requests Watches to include a park within
their Watch area and update the number of members/households covered. This
requires a visit by a Safer Neighbourhoods Team Officer.
202 Watches (83% of those that have completed the form) have agreed to include a
named park in their Watch


