Chapter Review and Assessment
6-1
 What is the purpose of the
insertion point in a wordprocessing program?
 It shows where you typed the
last word you did.




How do you use a mouse to scroll through a
document? How do you use the key board?
Press the up and down buttons on the
keyboard or press Page up Page Down, or use
the mouse by dragging the bar on the right side
of the screen and by using the scroll
wheel.


Of the three standards of word-processing
style, which do you think puts more demands
on the person using the program? Why?
The Non automatic standard. You have to
remember this: type one space, not two.



6-2
Give two examples of the file name extensions
that could be opened as a document by a word
processor in Windows. Why could the program
open them?
.doc or .wpd. They are opened because you
used an Open command.


In a word processing document, what are the
three actions you can perform on selected text?
Delete it, move it, copy it.



6-3
What is a default format?
A program that applies these formats
automatically, unless you change them.


Why do you think you should save your work
after making formatting changes?
If you don’t save your work, you have to do it
all over again.


Which kinds of documents would you print in
portrait orientation, and which kinds would
you print in landscape orientation?
In portrait, text is printed down the page’s long
edge creating a page that is taller than it is
wide. In landscape text is printed down the
page’s short edge, creating a page that it is
wider than it is tall.

Chapter Review and Assessment
Insertion point: shows the place in a document
where text will be added or deleted
Word wrap: automatically moves text to anew
line
Pagination: the automatic division of a
document into pages



AutoCorrect: fixes common spelling mistakes
as they are typed
Select text: action made on a block of text
before changing it
Clipboard: area where cut or copied text is
temporarily stored



Default: preset formats
Section: a separate part of a document with its
own formatting
Page format: features that identify how and
where text is positioned



The four functions of worked processing are
writing, editing, formatting and printing.
The auto save feature protects you from losing
work because you forgot to save.
One standard of word processing is to have
only one space after each sentence.



Some programs add extra characters, called an
extension, to a file name.
The redo command lets you restore a change
that you have just undone.
You can repeat a sentence in more than one
location in the same document – or in other
documents – by using the Cut and Paste
commands.



Collections of formats called a style make sure
that all elements of the same type have the
same look.
One point equals 1/72 inch.
Indentation refers to the added space between
a margin and text in a paragraph.

An example of a footer is a page number that
appears at the bottom of every page in a report.


Why would you want to force a new page after
creating the title page of a 20-page report?
So you can start your actual essay.


Why is selecting text an important function in a
word processing?
It is important because you can delete, move
and highlight stuff to make things easier.


Why are there both mouse and keyboard
methods for performing actions such as
selecting, cutting, copying and pasting?
Because you can rely on both to do the
selecting, cutting, copying and pasting.


What is the difference between landscape and
portrait orientation?
In landscape orientation, the text is shorter and
wider than it is tall. In portrait, it is the
opposite.



Why might a student type his or her name and
the class period in the header of a homework
assignment?
If your essay is lost a student who finds it can
give it back at the right time.

Word processing programs are used for writing, editing, formatting, and printing. These programs
can be used for school work or sending letters. When you enter the program there is a blank sheet of
paper ready to be written on. When you create a document you need to save it to continue next
time.
