Every year, the CSSPS Secretariat processes the results of three categories of students for Selection and Placement.
Category 1 : Qualified candidates who completed that academic year.
Category 2
Category 3
: Re-entry Candidates who completed
3 years back (2014 will be 2011-2013)
: Foreign Students (Ghanaians & Non-
Ghanaians) who Schooled Abroad.
• Second Cycle Schools grouped into OPTIONS :
– Public SHS : Three (3) groups namely options 3, 2 & 1
– Public Tech/Voc Inst. : option 4
– Approved Private Schools ( Both SHS & Tech/Voc): option 5

Candidates :
– Must Choose 4 schools (1 st -4 th choice) with corresponding programmes
– Must not choose one school twice
– May select all choices from option 1
– Should not select more than 2 schools from option 2
– Cannot choose more than 1 school in option 3
– Candidates who desire to pursue purely Tech/Voc programmes may select all choices from option 4
– Candidates have the liberty to select all choices from a mix of options 1, 2, 3 ,4 & 5
– Choice of schools from a combination of regions allowed.
Placement is based on six subjects
A minimum of six (6) subjects are used for all candidates for the selection. This comprises four (4) core subjects and two (2) best subjects .

Integrated Science
Social Studies/Building Technology ii.
Two other best subjects
The two (2) other best subjects are selected from the rest of the BECE subjects.
All candidates choosing one particular school are arranged in the order of merit.
Available vacancy for each programme declared by head of SHS/TI determines the cut-off point

Raw scores of candidates are used.

THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER / COUNSELLOR
Help the students to complete the selection and placement forms correctly.
Assist students to identify their interest and capabilities in order to select a course they can perform best.
• Teachers / counsellor should provide current, adequate and useful information with regards to the selection of schools and courses.
•
Teachers / counsellor should have a consensus meeting involving parents and students during the registration process.
•
Teachers / counsellor should keep accurate and true records of students and students ’ performance.
Students are required to write all subjects to qualify for selection and placement
Is the duty of the student to learn hard to qualify for selection since placement is purely on merit and no other consideration.
Students should provide accurate information about themselves to the school authorities.
Students should encourage parents to collaborate with school authorities in the choice of schools and courses.
Students should refrain from selecting the schools themselves and the habit of peer influence.
Students should refrain from all kinds of examination malpractices.
Parents should give the right information when filling the selection and placement forms
Parents should cooperate with school authorities during the registration process.
Parents should know that the choice their wards make today will determine their future
Parents should provide the necessary learning materials for their wards in order to perform well.
