WHAT IS
CCE?
Continuous and Comprehensive
Evaluation (CCE) is a regular
assessment of all respects of pupil
growth
and
development
i.e.
development in curricular area, cocurricular area and personal &
social qualities.
WHY CCE?
 National
Curriculum Framework
2005: We need to able to increasingly
shift towards school based assessments,
and devise ways in which to make such
internal assessment more credible.
 Each school should evolve a flexible and
implementable scheme of CCE, primarily
for
diagnosis,
remediation
and
enhancing of learning.
RTE ACT 2009
Section 29(2)- Curriculum and evaluation
procedure shall take into consideration the
following:





Conformity with the values enshrined in the
constitution.
All round development of child.
Building up child’s knowledge, potentiality and
talent.
Making the child free of fear, trauma and anxiety
and helping the child to express views freely.
Comprehensive and continuous evaluation, child
understands of knowledge and his/her ability to
apply the same.
RTE ACT 2009
 Section
30(1) – No child shall be
required
to
pass
any
board
examination till completion of
elementary education.
 Section
30(2) – Every child
completing his elementary education
shall be awarded a certificate, in
such form and such manner, as may
be prescribed.
OBJECTIVES
 The
students should be evaluated by the
same teacher teaching them.
 Evaluation should be linked with the
daily life activities.
 Evaluation should be carried out in
interesting way and activity based.
 Every student admitted in the school
should not be stagnated in particular
class and his/her elementary education
should get completed.
OBJECTIVES
 To
diminish examination stress/fear among
the students.
 To
ensure remedial teaching whenever
required.
 To minimise burden of curriculum.
 To keep cumulative record of every student, in
the prescribed format.
 To ensure coordination between evaluation
process and curriculum.
 To
motivate
students
for
improving
achievement level by enhancing their
capabilities.

CLASSES 1ST AND 2ND
In languages, teacher will assess:
 Listening Skills,
 Verbal Skills,
 Reading Skills and
 Writing Skills.
In Mathematics, teacher will assess:
 Counting and tables,
 Mathematical Concepts,
 Mathematical shapes.
 During
teaching
learning
process,
assessment of students in particular
skills/competencies will be based on day to
day observations.
 These will be recorded by the teacher by
giving respective descriptive remarks as
per rubrics every month in prescribed
evaluation sheet.
 Comprehensive
observations
of
six
months i.e. April to September/ October to
March will be reflected twice in the
student’s CCE report card.
 Therefore,
assessment of the child will
be according to his/her own progress
rather than being graded in comparison
with other students of the class.
 There will be no ranking or marks.
 Remedial teaching will be provided to
the children whenever required.
CLASSES 3RD TO 5TH
Hindi, English, EVS & Maths as per syllabus
prescribed and assessment of particular skill in
the subject will be based on observation by
using following tools:

 Work Book

In languages i.e. Hindi & English, students will
be assessed for:




Listening Skills,
Speaking Skills,
Reading Skills,
Writing Skills,
Mathematics and EVS, students will be assessed
for following competencies:

Conceptual Understanding
 In
languages
comprehension,
understanding & writing ability will be
assessed on the basis of written test taken
bimonthly and assignments/ work done in
workbook on monthly basis.
 Speaking skills, listening & reading skills
will be assessed on the basis of various
activities performed during teaching
learning process in the classroom.
 Competencies in Mathematics and EVS
will be assessed on the basis of written
test taken bimonthly and assignments/
work done in workbook on monthly basis.
 Teacher
will record the achievements of
student in particular skill either on the
basis of test or assignments in respective
months in prescribed evaluation sheet
every month, in the form of descriptive
remarks as per rubrics and suggestive
measures.
 The comprehensive observations of six
months for each skill/competency will be
mentioned in the student’s CCE report
card twice in an academic session. There
will be no grading/ranking/marks shown
in the report card.

CLASSES 6TH TO 8TH
 Five
main subjects i.e. Hindi, English,
Social Science, Science & technology, &
Mathematics and two additional subjects

Music as per syllabus prescribed.
 Assessment of above subjects will be
based on the following tools:

PERIODICAL TEST
 The
whole evaluation process is
divided
into
two
parts
i.e.
evaluation-I and evaluation-II. In
each part, two periodical tests will be
conducted by the teacher, one in
each assessment cycle to assess the
skills/competencies developed in the
student. Each test will be based
upon the skills and objectives having
certain specific weightage:

Since the assessment of students is being done by the same
teacher teaching them, therefore teacher should design the
periodical test in such a manner that items included there
in should cover the above mentioned objectives/ skills
according to their weightage.
Each test may be of 50 marks comprising all types of
questions e.g. MCQs, VSA, SA and LA so that each
area/skill/objective will be covered.
Marks obtained by the students, will be recorded by the
teacher in evaluation sheet and respective grades will be
reflected in student’s CCE report card for each assessment.
Marks will not be shown in any manner in the report card.
On the basis of assessment I & II and III & IV
comprehensive descriptive remarks would be written in the
CCE report card to reflect the skills developed in the
students.

PROJECT WORK
 Project
work is one of the prominent
techniques of assessment and it is the
responsibility of teacher to give exposure
of this to students. Teacher may provide
any type of projects i.e. investigative,
experimental and material production to
the students keeping in view their
regional resources and environment.
However, some suggestive projects are
given in the PBL Book published by the
department.
BROADLY THE EVALUATION OF
PROJECT WORK MAY HAVE
FOLLOWING FEATURES:
Every student will be assigned one solo and one
group project alternatively, in each assessment
cycle.
 The group oriented projects will facilitate for
cooperation and team spirit among students.
 Project can be of one subject or interdisciplinary
in nature.
 Project assessment need to take into
consideration different aspects such as
involvement, information/resources collected, the
process undertaken and the presentation of
project itself.

ONE PROJECT WILL BE OF 20 MARKS
AND DISTRIBUTION OF MARKS WILL BE
AS FOLLOWS:

 Department
has also provided the
workbook for 6th to 8th classes for each
subject to develop the different skills of
the student. Therefore, teachers are
required to assess the work/ assignments
done in work book. It may be assessed on
the following ground:
 Interest taken by the student
 Understanding of concepts
 Neatness of work
 Regularity in doing work
 Activities mentioned therein
 Assessment
will be based on three
points grading i.e. A, B, C w.r.t. 3, 2,
1 as prescribed in the rubrics.
 Record will be maintained by the
teacher in the form of grades in
evaluation sheet every month and
descriptive remarks may also be
added in the Student’s CCE Report
Card based on their performance.
CLASSROOM
PARTICIPATION
 It
is required to be assessed aimed at ensuring
that the students remain active, alert and
enthusiastically participative in the class
activities. The main criteria could be:
 Going through the lessons before hand,
 Attentiveness to what is going on in the class.
 Showing curiosity and eagerness about
seeking clarification for better understanding
of lessons.
 Enthusiastic participation in class activities.
Showing keenness to learn more about
topic.
 Giving relevant and current answers to the
questions asked by the teacher.
 Assessment will be based on three points
grading i.e. A, B, C w.r.t. 3, 2, 1 as
prescribed in the rubrics.
 Record will be maintained by the teacher in
the form of grades in evaluation sheet every
month and descriptive remarks may also be
added CCE Report Card.


spirit,
techniques, coordination and fitness etc.
PERSONAL AND SOCIAL
QUALITIES
 Personality
development of a child is greatly
affected by personal and social values
developed in his/her growth during the
learning process. Therefore, these values are
also important to assess the child’s overall
development.
 Rubrics for personal and social qualities are
described in the next chapter; a suggestive
list of activities of these qualities is tabled
below.

EVALUATION CRITERIA





While assessing the students of 1st to 5th classes, no
grading/ marks will be given in the CCE report card.
Only descriptive remarks will be written based on the
observations and/or periodical test for particular skill
as recorded in the evaluation sheet.
Further, descriptive remarks will also be based upon
specific rubric i.e. a set of rules or instructions to view
the achievement level of student in particular skill.
On the other hand, evaluation of 6th to 8th classes will
be based upon grading and descriptive remarks,
respectively.
