North Carolina High School Math Task Force Update Summer 2013 Transitioning to One High School Math Pathway Math I Math II Math III By 2014-2015 and beyond, all students will receive instruction on the Math I, Math II and Math III standards. In the 2012-2013 school year, all students whether enrolled in Algebra I, Integrated Math I or Local Option Math I, were taught and assessed using the same set of standards. These standards define the course, Math I. Course Sequence 2012-2013 2013-2014 (Math I Standards) (New Pathway) Algebra I Integrated Math I Local Option Math I Math II Critical Next Steps In order to transition the following will occur: • Professional Development Opportunities • Sharing of Resources, – Home Base http://www.ncpublicschools.org/homebase/ • Clarity regarding MSL library • Announcement to the Core to College Steering Committee, which includes leadership from NC DPI, the NC Community College System and the UNC System • Technical changes to GCS-N-004 to read Math I, Math II and Math III • Revision of the FRC documents • Textbook adoption process in the 2013-2014 School Year Timeline and Updates • October, 2012 - Announcement of a High School Math Task Force to determine the future of high school math pathways • November, 2012 – Held meeting with the UNC System Leaders to discuss student matriculation to the UNC System. • December 4th-13th, 2012 - Requested High School Math Task Force participation • January 4th, 2013 - Notified High School Math Task Force participants • January 7th–18th, 2013 - Organized data, research and pre-work for Task Force participants • January 25th, 2013 – Held first High School Math Task Force meeting in Raleigh • January 29th–February 12th, 2013 - Completed January 29th task list Timeline and Updates • February 12th, 2013 – Held 2nd High School Math Task Force meeting (Virtually) • February 12th - March 1st 2013 - Completed February 12th task list • March, 2013 Update • – CCSA Conference – LEA C&I Leaders Meeting April, 2013 – Presented to the State Board of Education - Information Item - • State Board of Education provides positive feedback to move forward with one pathway, Math I , Math II, and Math III. (Common Core State Standards for Mathematics were approved in June, 2010) Early Fall, 2013 – Scheduled meeting with UNC General Administration – • Finalize the change in course name only, not in the standards being taught August- March, 2013-2014 - Revision of 4th Year Math Courses
