achievement; 25th in math ability out of 65
countries.1
By 2018…
– STEM jobs will grow by 17 percent2
– 1.2 million STEM jobs will go unfilled3
Houston, we have a problem.
Women constitute 48 percent of the U.S.
workforce but hold just 24 percent of the U.S.
jobs in STEM4.
Only 1 in 10 STEM professionals is a minority
woman.
PLTW is solving it.
Highlights of PLTW’s success to date:
PLTW contributes to a strong, positive impact on
mathematics and science achievement (Tai, 2012)
Seventy percent of high school seniors who are taking
PLTW courses intend to study engineering, technology,
computer science, or another applied science5.
Over 93% of PLTW students intend to pursue at least a
two-year or four-year degree after high school5.
