Departmental assessment is the systematic
and ongoing method of gathering, analyzing,
and using information from measured
outcomes to improve department outcomes.
The primary purpose of assessment is to
improve the quality of services to students,
employees, and the community by fulfilling
the mission and accomplishing the goals of
the College.







Something we have to do just for SACSCOC
You have to be a research expert to do
assessment
You can’t measure what is done in certain
departments to improve the College
Assessment is someone else’s job
It will be used to judge a
department/individual
The purpose is to prove your department is
100% successful
Assessment is a top down approach

Ongoing, integrated, and institution-wide

As a department read and review Mission and Goals
Collaboratively within the department select the
Mission and Goals that is “most” supported by
routine operations
Discuss and brainstorm activities, programs, ideas,
ways, etc., your department supports CVCC’s
Mission and Achieve 2015 Goals

Specific statements that describe activities
required to support the accomplishment of CVCC
Mission or Achieve 2015 Goals
◦ Approximately 5 outcomes


Linked and derived from mission and goals
In addition to mission and goals related,
outcomes should include
◦ Student Satisfaction
◦ Employee Satisfaction
◦ Customer Service/ “Point of Service”




Make sure it is useful and leads to improvements
Consider where and when the assessment will
occur
Are there existing assessments?
