Chapter 4
PA Core Standards
The Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC)
approved Chapter 4 on November 21, 2013. The
regulations passed legal review and are published in the
Pennsylvania Bulletin Volume 44, Number 9. Chapter 4
includes the PA Core Standards as well as assessments –
revised PSSAs and Keystone Exams. Approved March 1,
2014.

The Spring 2015 PSSA questions and items
will be totally aligned with the PA Core
Standards.
Let’s examine the changes that will occur…
Spring 2015 PSSA
Writing will be a part of the ELA test
Grades 3-8
• All grades will be assessed on writing composition
• All grades eligible for three modes
• All language items are standalone multiple choice
Text Dependent Analysis will be a part of the ELA test
Grades 4-8
• Text Dependent Analysis prompt will be associated with a
reading passage
• Text Dependent Analysis essay response will be scored on text
analysis and on writing compositional skills
