Kontanten Nordic ATM
runner up after Norwegian acquisition
Kontanten acquires ATM Net, Norway’s leading operator on automatic teller
machines (ATM), from Point. Kontanten consequently increases the number
of ATM’s on the Nordic market by 50 per cent resulting in appx. 1 000 ATM’s
in Norway, Finland and Sweden, making Kontanten the second biggest
player in the Nordics. The goal is to become number one in the Nordics on
ATM’s.
The agreement comes into effect immediately and the acquisition will lead directly to
increased profitability. ATM Net has approximately 300 ATM’s across Norway. The
economies of scale are substantial as Kontanten uses the same infrastructure and
system solutions. The CEO for Kontanten AS will be Tore Anshus, today managing the
ATM area within Point.
- The acquisition in Norway gives us a stable ground for further expansion in the
Nordics, says Gunnar Jacobson, CEO at Kontanten. We aim at a 20-30 per cent
annual growth, the same pace we’ve had so far, and I see no reason to diminish
those goals.
Cash withdrawals have basically been constant the past years, along with at fast
increase in card payments. On the Swedish market, Kontanten has contributed to a
better cash access, an experience the company brings into their Norwegian market.
- We are specialists on cash withdrawals and is Sweden’s and Finland’s first and only
bank independent player. Ahead, we see a possibility of fast growth both organically
on our three markets as well as winning contracts on outsourcing from banks, says
Gunnar Jacobson. The trend in Europe is outsourcing of ATM operation and
management to specialists who are cost effective.
In January, Skandiabanken was the first bank in Sweden to outsource their ATM’s by
writing an agreement with Kontanten for operation and management.
Specialists on ATM operations can be compared to the currency exchange market
that used to be handled entirely by the banks, but are now dominated by specialised
players.
Since the start-up 2005 Kontanten has grown from zero to nearly 1 000 ATM’s in the
Nordics.
Kontanten is owned by the venture fund Scope, four founders and by Nordic investors.
