duān wŭ jié 端午节 Dragon boat festival The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. It is one of the most important Chinese festivals. 屈原 Chu Yuan Dragon Boat Festival commemorates the great Chinese poet Chu Yuan. He was exiled as a dissident. In his sorrow Chu Yuan threw himself into the Mi Lo river. Because of people’s admiration for Chu Yuan, who living nearby the Mi Lo River rushed into their boats to search for him while throwing rice into the river to prevent fish eating his body.
