Lunchtime launch event – Generation 2050 Report 12.30–14.00: Friday 15 July, PwC, One Kingsway, Cardiff You are cordially invited to the launch luncheon of the WLGA’s Generation 2050 report. Many authorities are already reaching a tipping point where it is no longer possible to undertake the same activities as before. Local authorities now have to fundamentally redefine their role and purpose. Put simply, local government now needs to make new strategic choices as well as finding more efficient and effective ways of working. Approaches need to be focused on pursuing the right outcomes and impact in communities, irrespective of delivery method; developing the right strategic partnership and decision making models built upon longer term evidence and trends, irrespective of ideology; and embedding new analytical techniques, competencies and disciplines for measuring success and longer term outcomes. The Generation 2050 report sets the context for why long-term strategic planning is needed if we are to address the inter-generational challenges both now and for future generations. It highlights best practice from around the globe and also explores how councils will need to adapt their operations and structures to be ready to deliver the generation 2050 agenda. The report provides a practical resource for leaders and decision makers in Welsh local government and will be of particular use to those considering early adoption of the proposed Future Generations Bill. The session will also profile recent research undertaken by Netherwood Sustainable Futures (NSF) using long term trend data at the local ward level to support longer term decision making. The launch will be chaired by our key note speaker Peter Davies MBE (Commissioner for Sustainable Futures) and include two short presentation from the authors Dr. Alan Netherwood (NSF) and Jeff Brown (Sustainability and Climate Change Lead Wales and West Region - PwC). We plan to leave plenty of time for questions and debate, either formally during the Q&A or informally with colleagues over the buffet lunch. I hope that you are able to join me at the launch event which I am confident will be an interesting, topical, stimulating and valuable. Yours faithfully, Steve Thomas CBE – CEO WLGA Jeff Brown – PwC – Sustainability and Climate Change lead – W&W Region Spaces are limited, to confirm your attendance please RSVP to Jessica Poole at jessica.a.poole@uk.pwc.com before Friday, 4th July 2014.
