My name is Satika meaning king.

I have been a part of this world with the Pawnee tribe for eleven years .

My family and I live in the central plains region.

This is my story …

Journal entry #1

“ Mom is father gotten back yet.”I screamed “No” my mother replied tersely. My father is a well known warrior and he is out hunting buffalo with the other men. If my father doesn’t return in a few days it is okay. Mother is the one who farms fresh food including beans, squash , and corn. Corn is very important to our people , it is enjoyed and so delicious . My tribe likes to rely on the use of buffalo because we use the skin to cover the walls and sides of a house.

“Satika” my mom called then she said,“ go get dressed we are going to leave. We are heading out to your uncle’s place .” I put on my favorite pair of moccasins and leather leggings. There is no need for my only buffalo hide coat to be used in these hot conditions .We are also on the move because the buffalo are leaving.

Being nomadic is hard because we have to follow our food every where. I get excited when we see real live buffalo. Meanwhile my mother was taking down the portable tipi. She unrigged the pole like sticks that hold up the tipi and took off the sowed buffalo hides that made the walls.

I had to pack all of my families clothes.

Other than my mother, I’m the main one who is supposed to clean the house

. I snatched my father‘s war shirts and the buffalo hide off his bed. He had his bed on the north side of the lodge which shows wisdom. I dove for his leggings which he had since I was born, they are super warm. I also grabbed my moms buck skins and blouses . I had to be very careful because every single hand stitch was a fragile item. http://ushistoryimages.com/native-ame rican-cl othing.s htm

I love the central plains because of all the room to run. It is sad because I do not get to stroll the terrain because I am busy learning about how to hunt from my uncle . “Howwwlll!” a wolf was near it was not very frightening. I’ve seen worse like buffalo which roams among the large plains. The birds aren’t that colorful it is plainly black and blue. Also in the worst of worst times we have dust storms some people just hide in tipis or run .

Meanwhile I was on my way to live with my uncle to learn the facts of life .

I loved when he would tell me when he was a boy about the plants. The way he described the color of the trees in the fall and the shrubs in the spring the way they were arranged was magnificent. On the way to my uncle’s place it started to get hot like all ways so we found a tree and stopped to eat some delicious squash .

Journal entry 3

Phew! It is hot. There aren’t trees everywhere so I am burning in the mid-day sun. We have people die because of dehydration but we can stop that by going to streams for cool water. The sun has a huge effect in everyday life. It slows down trips . Then sometimes my people can’t handle the heat and pass out

We can compensate for the strong heat by staying in the shade. There is no other effective way. If you’re a risk taker then another way to try to survive the sun is just run with water . It easier said then done. If only there were a magical way to take from place to place without trying to work hard or put you in danger.

Reflection

Well It looks great right now not a bad thing in sight. Then I got horrible news I thought it was normal but my dad hadn’t returned. My father had died in the middle of the hunt. I knew I would have a brighter future than my past . I am still devastated but I think I shouldn’t be down because my father is watching from the stars. Also my uncle is pretty cool even though my mom is in so much pain.

I killed and ate my first buffalo a few days ago it was amazing. I was very emotionally touched because my uncle had shown me how but I knew my dad got me though that challenge. The people are performing there traditional dances for the buffalo respecting it. People are enjoying one another and I think life could never be better.

Reflection #2

I think that this project went great .I loved the things that I got to learn. It made me feel like a different person and it was awesome. I think I did great on this project even though it is simple but it is straight to the point while staying in character it was a great experience.

The Grade I should get!?!

• I’m being honest I think that I should get a

93% or 94 %because I got most of the criteria down and there .I think here and there I could have cleared it up or made it even better. Even though I recommend you give me a 93 I will always do my best to get a 100.I enjoyed figuring out a lot about the Pawnee Indian tribe and I hope we can do more things just like this . See you next time  !
