Question
1. เปลี่ยนกริ ยานา (Introducing Verb) ดังนี้
Say
เป็ น ask หรื อ inquire
Said
เป็ น asked หรื อ inquired
Said to + บุคคล เป็ น asked + บุคคล
หรื อ inquired of + บุคคล
2. ถ้าประโยคคาถามใน Direct speech นั้น ขึ้นต้นคาถามด้วย

Verb to be
และกริ ยาช่วยจาพวก will , shall , can , may , must , etc.
ให้ใช้ if หรื อ Whether เป็ นคาเชื่อมระหว่างประโยคนา กับประโยคตามใน
indirect speech หรื อ indirect Question
ส่ วน Verb to do (ถ้ามี) ให้ตดั ทิ้งเสี ย
สาหรับ Verb to be,
Verb to have ,
และกริ ยาตัวอื่นๆ ให้เอาไปวางหลังตัวประธานในประโยคตาม
3. หรื อถ้าประโยคคาถามใน Direct Speech นั้นขึ้นต้นประโยคด้วยคา
Question Word คือ What , Where , When , Why,
Who , Which etc.
ไม่ตอ้ งใส่ if หรื อ whether เข้ามา
(เพราะ Question Word ทาหน้าที่แทนไปในตัวแล้ว)
4. การเปลี่ยน Tense และคาอื่นๆ ยังคงใช้หลักเดิม
5. ข้อความของ Indirect Question ต้องเรี ยงคาอย่างประโยคบอกเล่า
กำรใช้ if หรือ whether เป็ นคำเชื่อมนีจ้ ะใช้ or not ตำมหลังก็ได้
If
(a) He asked me if she lived there.
(b) He asked me if she lived there or not.
Whether (a) He asked me whether she lived there.
(b) He asked me if she lived there or not.

to be
Direct : He said to me,
“Are you leaving for London today ?”
เขาพูดกับผมว่า “คุณจะไปลอนดอนวันนี้หรื อ ?”
Indirect : He asked me if I was leaving for
London that day.
เขาถามผมว่าผมจะไปลอนดอนวันนั้นหรื อไม่

Direct
: He said to me,
“ Have you a friend in Paris ? ”
เขาพูดกับผมว่า “คุณมีเพื่อนอยูท่ ี่ปารี สไหม”
Indirect : He asked me whether I had a
friend in Paris.
หรื อ He inquired of me whether I had
a friend in Paris or not.
เขาถามผมว่า ผมมีเพื่อนอยูท่ ี่ปารี สหรื อไม่

Direct : He said to us, “Do you speak English ?”
เขาพูดกับเราว่า, “พวกคุณพูดภาษาอังกฤษหรื อ”
Indirect : He asked us if we spoke English.

ขึ้นต้นด้วยกริ ยาช่วยตัวอื่นๆ
Direct
: Bill said to me, “ Will you study
physics tomorrow ?”
บิลพูดกับผมว่า “คุณจะเรี ยนฟิ สิ กส์พรุ่ งนี้หรื อ”
Indirect : Bill asked me if (whether) I would
study physics the next day (or not).
บิลถามผมว่า ผมจะเรี ยนฟิ สิ กส์หรื อไม่วนั ต่อไป
ขึ้นต้นด้วยกริ ยาช่วยตัวอื่นๆ
Direct : She said to him, “Can you spell Australia?”
หล่อนพูดกับเขาว่า, “คุณสามารถสะกดคา Australia ได้ไหม”
Indirect : She asked him if he could spell
“Australia”.
หล่อนถามเขาว่า เขาสามารถสะกดคา Australia ได้หรื อไม่
กฎกำรทำ Indirect
question with out question word.
1. ถอดเครื่ องหมายคาพูด “
” ออก
2. กริ ยาด้านหน้าเปลี่ยน say to เป็ น ask
หรื อ said to เป็ น asked
แล้วตามด้วย if หรื อ whether
3. กำรลำดับคำต้ องอยู่ในรู ปประโยคบอกเล่ ำ
4. ตัดเครื่ องหมาย ? (question mark) ออก ใส่ . (full stop) แทน
5. กริ ยาในเครื่ องหมายคาพูดนั้นให้เปลี่ยนไป ถ้ากริ ยาด้านหน้าเป็ น past ตามกฎ
