What does “Holy Book” mean?
• God’s revelations to His
messengers.
• Have been brought to the
messengers by angel Gabriel.
• Has not undergone any changes.
How many Holy Books are
there?
• God sent down to his messenger four
main books:
– Tevrat (Torah)
– Zaboor (Psalms)
– Injeel (Gospel/Bible
– Qur’an
Moses pbuh
David pbuh
Jesus pbuh
Muhammad pbuh
How did we acquire this
knowledge of the Holy Books?
• The basic and most important
source of knowledge about the
Holy Books is the:
QUR’AN
• The Torah was revealed to Moossa (peace be
upon him). Allah says: "We gave Mossaa the
book and made it a guidance for the children of
Israel" [Qur'an 17:2]
• The Injeel (Gospel) was revealed to Esaa
(Jesus, peace be upon him). Allah says: "We
also gave him (Esaa) the Injeel that contained
guidance and light. It confirmed the Torah that
came before it, and contained guidance and
advice for the pious.“ [Qur'an 5:46]
• The Scripture of Ibrahim were in the form of
sheets. They do not exist now but as mentioned
in the Qur'an they had been revealed to Ibrahim.
Allah says: "This surely is also mentioned in the
early sheets, the sheets of Ibrahim and Moossa."
[Qur'an 87:18-19]
• The Zaboor (Psalms) was revealed to Daawood.
Allah says: "We also gave Daawood the Zaboor."
[Qur'an 4:163]
Did every Messenger of God have
a book?
• Only four messengers have books.
• Four other messengers have scriptures:
– Adam
– Seth
– Idris
– Abraham
– Total:
10 pages
50 pages
30 pages
10 pages
100 pages
Is every revelation a book?
• Every Prophet receives revelation, but not all
•
revelations are books.
Allah tells us that He sent revelations to each one
of His Prophets.
He says: "We have surely revealed to you like We
revealed to Nooh and the Prophets after him. We also
revealed to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Yaqub, the sons
of Yaqub, Esaa (Jesus), Ayoob, Yoonus, Haroon,
Sulayman. We also gave to Dawud a Zaboor."
[Qur'an 4:163]
What is the importance of Holy
Books?
• Sources of the Messengers’ messages
• They are messages from God (Letters
from God to His servants)
• Guides for mankind in this life to the
right path
• Guides for gaining the pleasure of God
and Paradise
Why should we believe in the
Holy Books?
• An important pillar of our faith is to believe in the
•
•
books that Allah sent down to His Messengers.
The Messengers used the books to teach the
people and guide them to the right path.
Allah commands us to believe in His books. Allah
says: “O you who believe, believe in Allah, His
messenger, the Book that He revealed to His
Messenger, and the books that He revealed before.”
[Qur’an 4:136]
What do they tell us?
• Allah's revelations contain things that which Allah
•
wants us to know or do, they show us what is right
and wrong in order to be happy in this life and the
next life.
In general, the books of Allah tell us about:
– Our Lord, His Oneness, names and qualities
– Unseen: What happened before (eg. stories of the
previous nations) and what will happen next (eg. Day of
Judgment, hell and paradise)
– Legislation: How to worship our Lord and rules that we
are to abide by in our life.
What happens when we don’t
believe in the Holy Books?
• We, Muslims, have to believe and completely follow
our book, the Qur'an, similarly the people of the
previous Prophets had to completely follow their
books. If they did they would be rewarded, if they
did not, they would be punished.
• Allah says: "If only they had followed the Torah,
the Injeel and what has now been revealed to them
(the Qur'an) from their Lord, they surely would
have gotten food from above them and beneath
their feet. Among them is a moderate community,
but many of them do evil deeds." [Qur'an 5:66]
What happens when we don’t believe
in the Holy Books?, cont’d.
• Muslims have to believe in all the Holy Books
sent by God to His Messengers.
• “O you who believe! Believe in Allah and His
Messenger, and the scripture which He has sent to
His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to
those before (him). Any who denies Allah, His
angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Day of
Judgment, has gone far, far astray.”
[Qur’an 4:136]
• The Qur'an is the last book from Allah that was
revealed to His Messenger, Muhammad (peace b
upon him). Allah says: "Alif, Laam, Meem. This is a
book in which there is no doubt, in it is guidance
for the pious." [Qur'an 2:1 -2]
• It was taken down by the angel Jibreel to Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon him) gradually over 23
years whenever needed. Allah says: "It is the
Qur'an which we have separated in time that you
might recite it to the people over long period. And
we have sent it gradually." [Qur'an 17:106]
What is the Qur’an?
• The last revelation of God.
• The principal source of every Muslim's faith
and practice.
• Its basic themes are the relationship
between God and His creatures and
between people one another.
• The Qur'an provides guidelines for a just
society, proper human conduct, and
equitable economic principles.
• The Qur’an is the only book that has been
maintained in its original language; Arabic.

The Qur’an and Modern Science
• Religion & Science are associates in Islam.
• It is impossible to explain how a text produced at
the time of the Quran (over 1435 years ago) could
have contained ideas that have only been
discovered in modern times except if we accept the
fact that it is the words of the Creator.
• Many Muslims scholars were considered among the
greatest scientists of their time, as well as many
branches of science were either considered to be
an Islamic innovation like Algebra & Chemistry
or indebted to Muslim Scientists like Medicine and
Architecture.
Scientific Miracles of the Qur’an
• Many scientific discoveries were used for
better understanding of Quran, which were
magnetic attraction for today’s scientists.
• Some Fields of the Scientific Miracles of the
Quran
– Astronomy
– Biology
– Embryology
– Geology
– Physics and many others.

The three zones within the mother’s womb protect the
fetus against all sorts of dangers. These are:
1- The abdominal wall,
2- The uterine wall, and
3- The amniotic sac.

until the end of the eighth week, and fetal;
from the eighth week to labor. "(Williams P., Basic

Currents
Because of the physical force called “surface tension“, the
waters of neighboring seas do not mix. Caused by the
difference in the density of their waters, surface tension
prevents them from mingling with one another, just as if a
thin wall were between them . (Davis , Richard A . , Jr. 1972 ,

“We placed firmly embedded mountains on the
Earth, so it would not move under them…”
(The Qur’an, 21:31)
With extensions that
mountains extend out
towards under the
ground, they clench
different plates of the
earth like a peg.
The Earth’s crust consists of plates that are in constant
motion. This clenching property of mountains prevents
shocks to a great extent by fixing the earth’s crust,
which has a very movable structure.
FEMALE HONEYBEE, BUILDER OF HER OWN CELL

And your Lord revealed the female honeybee; build homes in mountains,
and trees, and in the hives people built for you. (16:68)
To translate the honeybee in question with the addition of the adjective
“female” before the honeybee would be natural. (It should be noted
however that the orthography of both the feminine and the masculine is
the same for honeybee.)
The working of the female honeybee is described in the Quran as follows:
•Building of hive (16:68)
•Collecting of nectar, new material for honey production (16:69)
•Making honey (16:69)
All the above three functions are performed by
female bees.
DARKNESS AND INTERNAL WAVES IN THE SEAS
… or is like the darkness in a deep sea. It is covered by
waves, above which are waves, above which clouds.
Darkness, one above another. If a man stretches out his
hand, he can hardly see it. For any to whom God gives not
light, there is no light. (24:40)
DARKNESS : At a depth of 200 meters from the surface of the sea, darkness
reigns. At this depth, then, “If a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see
it,” as described in the verse. The bottom of seas and oceans are pitch dark.
While broad daylight reigns on the surface, 200 meters below it is again
completely dark.
WAVES ABOVE WAVES: In general, we have the impression that the wave only
breaks on the surface and that the water underneath is calm and still. That is
why the expression in the Quran, “by waves, above which are waves,” may seem
puzzling. These waves were discovered in 1900 and are as described in the
Quran. The dark depth of the sea contains these waves topped by the waves on
the
The picture to the right
represents internal waves
at interface between two
layers of water of
different densities. The
lower layer is denser than
the upper one. This
scientific fact, declared in
Sura Nur 40 of the Qur'an
14 centuries ago, has
been discovered by
today's scientists only
very recently.
Measurements made with today's technology have revealed
that between 3 and 30 percent of the sunlight is reflected at
the surface of the sea. Then, almost all of the seven colours of
the light spectrum are absorbed, one after another, in the first
200 metres, except for blue light (picture at left). Below a
depth of 1,000 metres, there is no light at all (above picture).
This scientific fact was pointed out in Sura Nur 40 in the Qur'an
1,400 years ago.

There are “feminine” and “masculine” suffixes in Arabic words like in many
other languages. With the help of these suffixes, we understand, for
instance, if a verb in a statement belongs to a female or a male. This
meaning is given only by adding a single letter of “t” to the end of a word in
Arabic. The capability of building nets and catching food is valid only for
female spiders. That is to say; the net covering the entrance of the cave
where the Prophet of Islam hid was built by a female spider.

During the time of the Prophet, biology was not a developed science and
the system of reproduction of plants was not known. Differentiation of sex
in plants was to be a later discovery. The concept of the production of
diverse pairs of plants as stated in the Quran 1400 years ago is very
meaningful.

(Qur’an, 57:25)
• The word “sent down”,
particularly used for iron in
the verse, could be thought
of having a metaphorical
meaning to explain that
iron has been given to
benefit people.
• But when we take into consideration the literal meaning of the
word, which is, “being physically sent down from the sky”, we
realize that this verse implies a very significant scientific
miracle. This is because modern research has proven that the
iron found in our world comes from the giant stars in outer
space.
We made the sky a preserved and protected roof yet still
they turn away from Our Signs. (Qur'an, 21:32)

Earths Magnetic Shied
This attribute of the sky has been proved by scientific research
carried out in the 20th century: The atmosphere surrounding
the Earth serves crucial functions for the continuity of life.
While destroying many meteors-big and small-as they
approach the Earth, it prevents them from falling to Earth and
harming living things.

Alif, Lam, Mim. The Romans have been defeated in the lowest
land, but after their defeat they will be victorious within three to
nine years. The affair is Allah's from beginning to end. On that
day, the believers will rejoice. (Qur'an, 30:1-4)
•An astonishing prediction is found in the first verses of Surat ar-Rum, which refers to the
Byzantine Empire, the eastern part of the later Roman Empire: The Byzantine Empire, which had
met with a great defeat, would soon gain victory.
These verses were revealed around 620, almost 7 years after the idolatrous Persians had severely
defeated Christian Byzantium in 613-14. In fact, Byzantium had suffered such heavy losses that it
seemed impossible for it even to survive, let alone be victorious again.
