Fryer Salmon Disease Lab (Microbiology) Corvallis Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) HMSC is a leading marine laboratory distinguished by its collaborative research partnerships. Originally established as a marine laboratory for Oregon State University, HMSC currently hosts collaborative research and education programs from seven OSU colleges and six state and federal agencies on HMSC’s 49-acre campus. http://hmsc.oregonstate.edu As OSU’s coastal campus and a base for oceanographic research, HMSC excels in student research opportunities and experiential instruction. We host a thriving summer internship programs and offer a diversity of academic programs for students from community college through post-doc. Managed by Oregon Sea Grant, HMSC's Visitor Center is a key site for public and K-12 education, and serves as a social laboratory for OSU’s Free-Choice Learning Lab. HMSC is a resource for Visiting Scientists and Marine Science Students, combining expertise, location and infrastructure, including a world-class seawater system, experimental wet labs, and OSU’s Guin Library. Our program is designed to provide a diverse array of hands-on educational experiences as well as traditional classroom instruction. The Fall program includes a field-oriented course in Coastal Ecology and Resource Management (CERM) FW 426/526. This fivecredit course is taught by a team of faculty and agency scientists and is based at the Hatfield Marine Science Center, on the coast in Newport, Oregon. The class consists of a one-week intensive field lab and lecture series, followed by weekly seminars, discussions, and field trips for the term. Students learn basic biological, chemical, and physical processes of coastal habitats, and some of the issues associated with human use of coastal resources. The course is open to advanced undergraduates and graduate students from any department but is of particular interest to those majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife, Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science, or Natural Resources. http://fw.oregonstate.edu/content/bachelor-science-fisheries-and-wildlife-sciences-corvallis Oregon Hatchery Research Center Research on fish recovery and hatchery programs, including differences between wild and hatchery fish, in order to better manage those differences http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/OHRC/ • 4 artificial stream channels to simulate stream conditions equipped with motion sensitive cameras • 4 concrete raceways • Tank farm (44 fiberglass tanks) • Analytical lab • Complete wet lab (heated/chilled, filtered UVtreated water • Interpretive center, A/V equipped class & conference rooms, 24 dorm style living quarters • Fish-rearing facilities • Education and research buildings with lab space Dr. David Noakes David.noakes@oregonstate.edu Nash Hall Room 120 H.J.
