President’s Report
Jennifer Glover
• 2013 at a Glance: Open House (members and interested individuals)
at the McCoy in January, monthly socials, monthly Board meetings,
two large-scale fundraising events (March and November), new
member informational socials, business connections meetings,
committee meetings, SWANS, book clubs, neighborhood outreach,
volunteering, beneficiary research, and charitable giving
• Contributions of 2013: Safety Town, Empty Bowls, Scholar Author,
Eaglethon Dance Marathon (Nationwide Children’s Hospital), New
Albany July Independence Day Run and Walk (LifeCare Alliance &
New Albany Symphony), New Albany Special Olympics, Victoria
Boals, and New Albany K-1

Vice President’s Report
Heather Buchanan
• Our Mission: The New Albany Women’s Network exists to provide
a network for all women who live, work, or have an interest in New
Albany, Ohio, and to enrich and foster a united, strong community
through various social, charitable, educational and community
outreach programs.
• Our Vision: Through the power of our organization, the dedication
of our time and the combination of our efforts, we strive to create a
strong community for all who live and work in New Albany.

Secretary’s Report
Martha Chaddock
NAWN maintained a plot at the Community Garden
–Improved the soil by adding additional organic matter.
–Planted easy to grow and maintain cutting flowers that did not
require watering.
–Included bouquets of cut flower with meals we provided.

Treasurer’s Report
Lisa Bednar
● Our mission is to provide a way for women who live, work
or have an interest in New Albany to connect and give back
to the community - therefore, the bulk of our operating
budget is for Social membership benefits as well as local
donations. (Donations in addition to our annual
fundraising events and our chosen endowment projects.)
● Our additional operating expenses are primarily for
general operating administrative items such as accounting
fees, insurance, postage - basically all general costs of being
an organization.

Beneficiary Research
Laura Whitaker
• Committee: Kate Ault-Kinkead, Heather Calamari, Martha Chaddock, Molly
Cooper, Robin Giroux, Sheryl Landers, Debra Lowery, Marianne Troutman
• In 2013, we received ten applications and conducted site visits/interviews
with the four “best match” applicants.
• Rachel’s House was voted to be the 2013 Fashion Show beneficiary.
• Helping Hands Center was selected to be the ENA 2014 beneficiary.
• Currently accepting applicants for 2014-15 beneficiary consideration, with a
deadline of January 15, 2014. Application available on website.

Scholarships
Laura Whitaker
• NAWN recognized two New Albany High School seniors for
their outstanding dedication and commitment to service in their
community.
• Two $2,000 scholarships were awarded.
• The 2013 recipients were Leigha Anthony and Devon Pitts.
• Leigha has volunteered for Victory Ministries for 6 years and is
planning to study Business at the University of Colorado Boulder.
• Devon was recognized for his work with World War II veterans,
and will attend Denison University.

Membership
Kate Ault-Kinkead
• Our Annual Open House was held in January and about 70
members, old and new, attended.
• Two New Member Socials were held this year.
• The April social invited 30 new members and 22 attended.
• The October social will be held within a week.
• As of October 1 NAWN had 262 members.

Enews – Jill Olman
 Thus far this year, we have sent 41 emails to our membership,
comprised of 10 monthly newsletters (ENews) and 31
other adhoc announcements and event reminders. We have also
introduced paperless post invitations for social events, which
have been a nice addition and a huge success!
 In the last 10 months, we have had an average constant contact
open rate of 56.5%, which is up 3.3% from last year. In the last
3 months, we have had an average paperless post open rate of
73.4%.
 The constant contact email with the highest open rate was "We
Are Going To Miss You So-Last Chance Membership Renewal",
which was sent in February and had an open rate of 70%. The
paperless post email with the highest open rate was the "Fall
Recipe Swap" sent in September and had an open rate of 79%.

Website – Christy Arenschield
• The NAWN website has continued to get more hits this year.
The majority of our members now join and renew online.
• We are also trying to strategically increase our use of Facebook
as a communication tool

Public Relations – Kerri Mollard
•Seven Press Releases sent this year - new board officers, ENA,
ENA results, scholarship winners, beneficiary decisions, ENA
sponsorships, Fashion Show - with three more releases yet to be
sent.
•New media relationships with Capital Style, The Women's Book,
New Albany Life, and others including blog posts.
•Created "NAWN in the News" on the website to list releases and

–Located in front of 2013 Directory of Members
–Advertises businesses to all NAWN members and helps off-set

Charitable Projects
Jackie MacLaren
– Had another successful Holiday giving program and are
looking to repeat it
– Assisting 44 New Albany families through the schools which
equaled 125 children. Everyone’s wish was fulfilled plus an
extra Kroger card for most families.
– Again this year, focusing on New Albany families in need
with school age and younger children

SWANS
Lorrie Durik
SWANs has had another vibrant, active year. Here are the events we have enjoyed.....
January - Matinee viewing of "Les Miserables" and lunch at the Easton Theater
February - Fabulous insiders' tour of Children's Hospital followed by lunch at Black Creek
Bistro
March - Off to the Hollywood Casino for lunch and a private tour of the facilities
April - A tour of Decorators' Show House in Bexley with lunch at the property
August - Artists for a day.... Painting party and lunch at The Plate Restaurant
September - Private tour of the Josephinium Pontifical College followed by lunch at
J.Alexander's
October - our 9th annual hat and tea party. Held this year at Mozart's Clintonville cafe.
November - Lunch, chef's culinary demo at Ella Restaurant and visit with an artist at
Hayley Gallery
December - Holiday brunch and organizational meeting at a SWAN member's home.
[We had a few months when activities did not take place and that's OK - we stay flexible

Empowering Women Series
Sheryl Landers
A quarterly series that focuses on the betterment of women through educational
classes with input from members.
The series presented this year:
l. Tour of the Ealy House: Learn the early history of New Albany in this National Register
home with tour guide, mayor of New Albany and NAWN member, Nancy Ferguson.
2. Container gardening: Presented by Healthy New Albany with NAWN member Deborah
Milks at Oakland Nursery.
3. Healthy You, Healthy Me: A program about healthy family prepared snacks. Sampling
encouraged.
4. Strategies for Self Defense: Being aware of our surroundings is one form of self defense.
But it is how we handle a situation
and what do we do when we suspect someone is

watching or waiting for us that matters. Officer John Duff was the speaker.
Playgroups
Terri Erlenbach
• Meet on Wednesdays for Starbucks and Storytime
• Other activities this year: Picnics, zoo trips, apple picking,
pumpkin patch, Polaris playtime, COSI, movie afternoon
• Ages are 4 and under

Book Groups
Sheryl Landers
NAWN has 4 active reading groups; 3 in the evening, and 1 in
the afternoon. The fourth group was formed this year and has
been successfully meeting.

Neighborhood Outreach
Brenda Khoury
•NAWN Outreach volunteers have provided meals for families
throughout New Albany – both NAWN members and nonmembers
•There are over 100 members who generously volunteer for the
committee
• Provided support during illness, cancer, death and joyful new
babies
•This service is a huge support for families during life changing
events and is a reminder of the close-knit, caring community we
live in
•A huge thank you to everyone who participated. Email
outreach@nawn.org to be added to the next meal volunteer

Amanda Knapp
• Is a great group of women in the workplace who meet to chat,
network and share best practices.
• Often just interact "mixer" style in a casual and informal way.
• Sometimes have topical meetings. This year topics included PR,
advertising/marketing, empowerment, hot topics and web
design.
