In my humble opinion, Maslow’s learning theory based on human needs is the finest of them all. As a humanistic, he puts the person at the center of attention (in our case it’s the student). In a classroom environment giving attention to students one by one is important. It would help them with boosting their confidence and the feeling of belonging. With his hierarchical pyramid based on human needs, it’s easier to give students their needs while emphasizing their human qualities. It models how students are motivated to learn. In the pyramid, physiological needs are the bottom level, teachers can provide this by keeping nutritious bars in the classroom and making sure all students have access to water. For the fourth level teachers can monitor the classroom in case of bullying or harassment. As I mentioned before teacher’s attention would be so useful for the feeling of belonging in a classroom for the third layer of Maslow’s pyramid. Boosting students’ self-esteem with feedbacks would be the greatest way and as the top level of self-actualization when they reached their full potential they are ready to learn. Maslow’s goal of education is healthy and happy learners. From my standpoint, Maslow’s humanistic theory is the key to a successful classroom environment with happy students. This specific theory would be so useful for students’ mental health especially nowadays with stressful youngsters with test anxiety etc. Our generation met the term of anxiety too early but this learning theory with its useful steps would help teachers but also students overcome a lot in classroom.
