OBJECTIVES Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts, uses and importance of statistics, data collection/gathering and the different forms of data representation, measures of central tendency, measures of variability, and probability. Performance Standards The learner is able to collect and organize data systematically and compute accurately measures of central tendency and variability and apply these appropriately in data analysis and interpretation in different fields. Learning Competency The learner skillfully differentiates sources of data and ways of data collection. II. SUBJECT MATTER III. MATERIALS 1. Teacher’s Materials 2. Student’s Materials References IV. Lesson Proper (4A's: Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, Application) Lesson Proper Lesson Objectives: To be read by the students. Differentiates the sources of data Identify the method of gathering statistical data Determine the importance of gathering statistical data in a real-life situation. Sources of Data 1. Primary Data - are information gathered directly from the source. - are more reliable, authentic and have not been published anywhere. Examples: Diaries, Letter, Painting, Speech 2. Secondary Data - are data that have been already collected by and readily available from other sources. - may either be published or unpublished. Examples: Dictionary, Textbooks, Encyclopedia, Atlas Ways of Collecting Data 1. Interview - this method is referred to as the DIRECT METHOD of gathering data because this requires a face-to-face inquiry with the respondents. Example Research Topic: People’s Trust in the Current President of the Country 2. Questionnaire - this method is referred to as the INDIRECT METHOD of gathering data because this makes use of written questions to be answered by the respondents. Example Research Topic: The Effectiveness of Filipino as a Medium of Instruction in Math. 3. Observation - this method makes use of the different human senses in gathering information. Example Research Topic: The Changes in Behavior of Drug Dependents 4. Registration or Census - this method requires the enactment of law to take effect because it needs the participation of a large, if not the entire population. Example Research Topic: The Number of People Residing in Bacolod City. 5. Experimentation - This method is usually conducted in laboratories where specimens are subjected to some aspects of control to find out cause and effect relationship. Example Research Topic: The Physical and Behavioral Changes in a Guinea Pig Subjected to a New Medicine for COVID-19 A. Activity Instruction: Identify the source of data if PRIMARY or SECONDARY. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
