Good afternoonI am the art teacher at North Pole High School, and I have the delight & honor of
working with your student.
Thank you for letting me share art with them. I hope they are enjoying the community
we are creating as much as I am.
Project Next Week- Identity Collages:
Next week, we are beginning a Identity Collage project. Students have created a Mind
Map of their identity and place this week.
We are going to create an Identity Collage based off the information they have gathered
for their Mind Map.
Art Kits:
I have prepared art kits for the students to pick up so that they can create their collage,
and continue working for the rest of the quarter. The school is open from M-F from 82:30 for students and families to come and pick up the kits. It would be very helpful
for students if they could have the kits by Tuesday of next week.
I understand this is difficult! My daughter is a student at Lathrop, and my husband and I
have had to do some challenging juggling to get her books and materials during their
open hours.
Please let me know if this is going to be an issue so that I can assess what kind of
assistance the school can provide.
Art Materials at Home:
I also wanted to give you a little bit of a heads up regarding the materials your student
will be working with at home. Students will have the most success if they have a solid
surface to work on, like a table or a linoleum floor. When I am painting or making
messy art at home I work on a large trash bag or several Fred's bags to prevent paint
getting on my furniture or carpets. This will also prevent dust or grit getting into the
artwork.
For cleanup- Do not let your student wash excessive paint down your sink. If they have
more than just smears, they should wipe their hands off with a paper towel and put any
bits or chunks of dried paint in the trash. If they have a lot of paint on a surface, the
best method for clean up is to let it dry and then peel it off.
As a wrap up, I wanted to make sure you know that I love my job, and I'm excited to
work with students who are learning to express themselves through art.
Again thank you for allowing me the privilege of working with your student.
