If each construction project is unique, how can it be governed by processes that are
consistent fromjob to job?
- Despite the fact that every project is different, there are common stages that all jobs go
through, such buying supplies and creating contracts. Equipment installation and approval
of some phases are still required. With this in mind, we can nevertheless provide broad
guidelines to guide each site's process.
What are the three stages of development of a construction project?
- Planning and definition, Design, and Procurement and construction
What unique part does each of the following play in a construction project?
a. Owner - liable for building and design finance. In terms of the hiring of contractors, they
must also adhere to state statutes. They must publish an advertisement, hold a call for
bids, and draft a contract.
b. Designer - responsible or designing the project.
c. General contractor - responsible for building the approved design leaving the owner and
the designer happy.
d. Specialty contractor - mechanical contractors, for example, who assemble and
disassemble mechanical equipment like air handlers, boilers, chillers, etc.
What are the distinguishing characteristics of the following project delivery systems?
a. Design‐bid‐construct - The most traditional method of construction. The architect
designs the project then contractors bid on the design. The owner picks a contractor and
the project begins.
b. Design‐construct - Owner hires a single company to handle the design, construction, and
sometimes procurement.
c. Construction Management - construction management services are provided to the
construction's owner with the goal of obtaining excellent quality at a reasonable price.
They can oversee the entire project or just work on a certain area of it.
d. Work‐by‐force account - The owner decides to do the construction for their own use.
This method can be combined with other contracting methods.
e. Turnkey - In this project, the contractor is responsible for all owner obligations. Land
selection, project finance, and leasing of the finished facility are the contractor's
responsibilities.
f. Integrated Project Delivery - Based on a single contract that each stakeholder has
signed, this ties the parties together. In order for everyone to be happy, everyone
contributes information, risk, and reward.
How can an aspiring project manager develop, or a practicing project manager improve,
the fouressential attributes required for an effective project manager?
- Anyone that wants to become an excellent Project manager must first recognize all four
of the attributes. If they are familiar with all four qualities, they can put them to use in
their careers to hone their skills over time. Perfect performance results from flawless
practice. As he or she advances in their job, it's critical to keep this in mind.
