Experiment No.4: MEASURING OF Surface Roughness BY Surtronic 25 AIM: To measure the surface rouhness using surtronic (25) instrument. Apparatus: Surtronic (25), work piece, surface plate. Theory: The Surtronic 25 is a portable instrument that has a large display with the simplest of menu structures and updated parameters. It is powered by a battery. It can be used either as a freestanding or a bench mounted with fixturing for batch measurement and laboratory operations. The product features fast measurements cycle and intuitive menu structure. It provides unique stylus lift mechanism for flexibility. It has parameter options to fit the applications of the user and a powerful software option. Along with that, the long traverse length and extended pick-up reach is also featured. Its storage is capable of storing 100 readings. Procedure: 1. Clean the instrument and the surface work piece by fine cotton cloth. 2. The power supply to the surtronic (25) measuring instrument is given and it is checked with the reference sample for current roughness. 3. The instrument is bound on the specimen properly and then the measurement is stored by pressing start/stop button. Note down Ra & Rz values using parameter button. 4. Repeat the experiment on speciment by changing the distribution. 5. Repeat the above process for the remaining specimen and tabulate the readings. Observations: Measurement roughness value µm sample.
