УКРАЇНСЬКОЇ ТА АНГЛІЙСЬКОЇ МОВ”

Lecture 1. Essentials of Comparative Linguistics.
The lecture is aimed to give the knowledge of the aims and tasks of the Contrastive Typology, its
main notions and terms, to develop the students’ outlook of methods of investigation in
Contrastive Typology and their knowledge of the main achievements in this field of science.
Lecture 2. Language Classifications
It was in Europe, as it happened, that the techniques for recognizing relations among languages
and grouping them together in families were first developed. European languages, together with
their over-seas descendants were first investigated. So, the lecture is devoted to the problem of
studying families of languages and the types of languages.
Lecture 3. Constants for Comparing English and Ukrainian Morphological Systems
Grammar as a branch of Linguistics treats the laws of language units’ usage in speech. It
considers and examines language from its smallest meaningful parts up to its most complex
organization. The given lecture touches upon such problems: the morphemic structure of English
and Ukrainian words, grammatical meaning and grammatical category, grammatical forms of
English and Ukrainian words, parts of speech in English and Ukrainian.
Lecture 4. Notional and Functional Parts of Speech in English and Ukrainian
On the basis of contrastive analysis the isomorphic and allomorphic features of grammatical
categories of English and Ukrainian nouns, pronouns, numerals, adjectives, adverbs, statives,
verbs and functionals are revealed in the lecture.
Lecture 5. Grammatical Categories in English and Ukrainian
It is the grammatical category, which is the main unit for typological contrast. That is why the
lecture is devoted to revealing such problems as grammatical categories as the main constants for
parts of speech comparison, nominal categories and verbal categories.

Lecture 1. Typology of the Word-Group in English and Ukrainian
While doing contrasting of two languages at different levels it’s very important to analyze
isomorphic and allomorphic features concerning theory of sentences in English and Ukrainian.
The given lecture reveals isomorphism and allomorphism at the level of simple sentences in two
contrasted languages, explains common and divergent features of the word-group in English and
Ukrainian.
Lecture 2. Typology of Simple Sentence in English and Ukrainian
It is discussed such questions as communicative types of the sentence, structural types of the
sentence and parts of the sentence in English and Ukrainian in the given lecture.
Lecture 3. Typology of the Composite Sentence
Typology of the Complex Sentence in English and Ukrainian is touched upon in the lecture;
main isomorphic and allomorphic features are revealed and discussed.
Lecture 4. English and Ukrainian Punctuation
On the basis of contrasting analysis it is discussed and revealed isomorphic and allomorphic
features concerning the punctuation of the simple sentence and punctuation of the complex
sentence.
Lecture 5. Conversion in English and Ukrainian
The lecture touches upon the problem of using the means of inversion in English and Ukrainian
sentences and the ways of their translating in two contrasted languages.
