Hello fourth graders!
¡Hola alumnos de cuarto grado!
My name is Milena Mladenović,
Homeroom teacher who will be collaborating
closely with you on developing your kids'
potentials during the next period of 2022 2023 school year. This year we are going to
full live classes which will bring more joy to
the process of learning and socialization. As a
short introduction I will mention that my
experience is based on 13 years of work as a
teacher, 9 years of work as a teacher trainer,
but also work on national and international
projects with students of all ages. I believe in
the Whole child approach in Education, and
therefore will devote my time and energy in
the LIFE school to support development of
your children in whole. I originate from Serbia
where I was born and lived for 40 years.
Mi nombre es Milena Mladenović,
maestra de Homeroom que colaborará
estrechamente con usted en el desarrollo del
potencial de sus hijos durante el próximo
período del año escolar 2022 - 2023. Este año
vamos a clases en vivo completas que traerán
más alegría al proceso de aprendizaje y
socialización. Como breve introducción
mencionaré que mi experiencia se basa en 13
años de trabajo como docente, 9 años de
trabajo como formadora de docentes, pero
también trabajo en proyectos nacionales e
internacionales con estudiantes de todas las
edades. Creo en el enfoque integral del niño
en la educación y, por lo tanto, dedicaré mi
tiempo y energía en la escuela LIFE para
apoyar el desarrollo integral de sus hijos. Soy
originario de Serbia, donde nací y viví durante
40 años.

What will we be learning this year?
¿Qué aprenderemos este año?
ELA: Students will be reading and writing in
order to compare and summarize texts. Our
reading will have a big vocabulary focus. We
will be looking at the reasons an author
writes a text and the point of view that the
characters take. We will write in a variety of
ways such as telling a story, writing to inform,
and to share and opinion with others.
Students will be focusing on various spelling
patterns for their weekly spelling practice
and will have a grammar focus, such as
subject/verb agreement.
ELA: Los estudiantes leerán y escribirán para
comparar y resumir textos. Nuestra lectura
tendrá un gran enfoque en el vocabulario.
Examinaremos las razones por las que un
autor escribe un texto y el punto de vista que
adoptan los personajes. Escribiremos de
diversas formas, como contando una historia,
escribiendo para informar y para compartir
una opinión con otros. Los estudiantes se
enfocarán en varios patrones ortográficos
para su práctica ortográfica semanal y
tendrán un enfoque gramatical, como la
concordancia entre sujeto y verbo.
Math: Students take their understanding of
place value to the next step through addition
and subtraction work up to one million. They
continue their work on multiplication and
division by multiplying 2-digit numbers and
recognizing factors, multiples, and patterns
of numbers.
Social Studies: Students learn about North
and Central America and its peoples from a
geographic perspective. They learn about
ancient civilizations on the continent and
early European exploration as they expand
map reading, mapmaking, and geographic
reasoning skills. They apply concepts of how
geography affects human settlement and
resource use.
Science: Students analyze and evaluate plant
and animal structures related to function and
survival.
Matemáticas: los estudiantes llevan su
comprensión del valor posicional al siguiente
paso a través del trabajo de suma y resta
hasta un millón. Continúan su trabajo de
multiplicación y división multiplicando
números de 2 dígitos y reconociendo factores,
múltiplos y patrones de números.
Estudios sociales: los estudiantes aprenden
sobre América del Norte y Central y sus pueblos
desde una perspectiva geográfica. Aprenden
sobre civilizaciones antiguas en el continente y
la exploración europea temprana a medida que
amplían la lectura de mapas, la elaboración de
mapas y las habilidades de razonamiento
geográfico. Aplican conceptos de cómo la
geografía afecta los asentamientos humanos y
el uso de recursos.
Ciencias: los estudiantes analizan y evalúan
las estructuras de plantas y animales
relacionadas con la función y la
supervivencia.

Grading Policy
Política de Calificaciones
Grades are mathematical presentation of
how your kids, our students are developing in
a given time period. We will be taking in the
account following areas:
Las calificaciones son una presentación
matemática de cómo sus hijos, nuestros
estudiantes, se están desarrollando en un
período de tiempo determinado. Estaremos
tomando en cuenta la siguiente área:





30% weight of the grade will be for
Participation (Students come ready to
learn and participate in activities by
completing
work,
sharing,
and
contributing to discussions),
30% weight of the grade will be for
Classwork (Students complete work),
20% weight of the grade will be for
Projects,
10% weight of the grade will be for
Quizzes and Tests,
10% Homework (If and when homework
is assigned, students will receive a grade
for completion. At times, there may be a
Homework assignment that accompanies
a Project students are working on).
Students will be given at least one grade
weekly from one of the mentioned areas. The
final grades for every trimester will resemble
the average of all grades that students gained
in the following trimester from the given
subject. In the last trimester all grades will be
accounted into the final grade.
All assignments are graded out of 100%, and
to help you interpret the scores, the following
rubric may be used:


90-100% Exemplary: student can
independently perform the skill at a high,
mastery level in multiple instances with
no or minimal errors,
80-89% Accomplished: student can
independently perform the skill at an
above average level in multiple instances
with few errors,





El 30% del peso de la calificación será para
Participación (los estudiantes vienen listos
para aprender y participar en actividades
completando trabajos, compartiendo y
contribuyendo a las discusiones),
El 30% del peso de la calificación será para
Trabajo en clase (trabajo completo de los
estudiantes),
El 20% del peso de la calificación será para
Proyectos,
El 10% del peso de la calificación será para
pruebas y exámenes,
El 10% de tarea (cuando se asigna tarea, los
estudiantes recibirán una calificación por
completarla. A veces, puede haber una
asignación de tarea que acompañe a un
proyecto en el que están trabajando los
estudiantes).
Los estudiantes recibirán al menos una
calificación semanal de una de las áreas
mencionadas. Las calificaciones finales de cada
trimestre se parecerán al promedio de todas las
calificaciones que los estudiantes obtuvieron en
el siguiente trimestre de la materia dada. En el
último trimestre se contabilizarán todas las
notas en la nota final.
Todas las tareas se califican con un 100% y,
para ayudarlo a interpretar los puntajes, se
puede usar la siguiente rúbrica:


90-100% Ejemplar: el estudiante puede
realizar de forma independiente la
habilidad a un alto nivel de dominio en
múltiples instancias con errores mínimos o
nulos,
80-89% Logrado: el estudiante puede
realizar
la
habilidad
de
forma
independiente a un nivel superior al
promedio en múltiples instancias con pocos
errores,

70-79% Developing: student can

Materials List
In order to realize the process of
learning we will need some materials. This is
a list of materials that you will need to equip
your kids with:

- 3 regular pencils (no mechanical pencils,
please)
- 1 eraser
- 1 pencil sharpener
- 1 box of colored
- 1 box of colored markers
- 2 large spiral notebooks with lines (A4
format)
- 2 large spiral graph paper notebook (A4
format)
- 4 folders
- 2 glue sticks
- 1 pair of scissors
- 1 personal whiteboard
- 2 whiteboard markers
- 1 whiteboard eraser
- 1 pencil box or bag
- 1 ruler



70-79% En desarrollo: el estudiante
puede realizar una habilidad, con la
intervención / asistencia del maestro, a
un nivel promedio en múltiples instancias
o de forma independiente con muchos
errores.
60-69% Principio: el estudiante solo
puede realizar una habilidad con una
intervención / asistencia significativa del
maestro, el trabajo individual tiene
errores significativos
Por debajo del 60%: los estudiantes
tendrán la oportunidad de volver a
aprender el contenido y revisar su
trabajo.
