The field of robotics that has the potential to be the most exciting is artificial intelligence (AI). Everyone agrees that a robot can work in an assembly line, but there is no consensus on whether or not a robot can ever be intelligent. This is certainly the most contentious issue. Artificial intelligence is difficult to pin down, much like the concept of robots themselves. The most advanced form of artificial intelligence would be a machine that was created by humans and would have the same intellectual capabilities as people. This would include the ability to learn pretty much anything, the ability to reason, the ability to use language, and the ability to come up with one's own original ideas. Although roboticists have not even come close to reaching this level of artificial intelligence, they have made significant headway with lower-level AI and are continuing to do so. The artificial intelligence (AI) of today can simulate certain aspects of human intellectual capacity.
