An older client is a resident in a long-term care facility. The client has been unable to control the urge to void since experiencing a cerebrovascular accident (CVA - stroke) 1 month ago.
The client is alert and oriented and has no verbal deficits since the stroke.
A.
Polyuria.
This refers to voiding large amounts of urine.
B.
Incontinence.
Correct
Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. In the case of this client, it may be the result of neurologic impairment secondary to the stroke.
C.
Retention.
This refers to the inability to empty the bladder completely.
D.
Oliguria.
This refers to decreased urinary output.
