Matter
When working with black individuals on the autism
spectrum, it is especially important to ensure that
attention is focused on keeping them safe in all
situations. Organizations committed to increasing
understanding of and respect for autistic persons in
the United States offer free law enforcement
trainings. However, keeping everyone safe is a 360◦
initiative.
This visual was created by Dr. Amy Fritz-Ocock,
CCC-SLP and her autistic daughter Delaney. It is
shared for the purposes of parent and professional
training. We recommend sharing this mnemonic
device/visual support with all autistic persons,
especially people of color. Then role play common
instances when they may encounter law
enforcement (such as a routine traffic stop or
crowd control situation).
