The Mico University College Name: Shantoy S. Campbell Course: Introduction to Special Education Lecturer: Keitha Osborne Assignment 3 A Autism may be describes as a developmental disorder of variable severity that is characterized by difficulty in social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour. In the movie From The Heart, We are introduced to Shao and his interaction in a school where he is the only individual with Autism. He has a rough background with his parents being divorced and doesn’t have the support he should have. He is introduced to his new teacher, who will change is life forever. While watching the short film, I was deeply surprise by the heightened brilliance a person with autism normally has. I have come to the realisation that lacking in one trait may see an increase in another. I was also shocked with the attention to detail and order that Shao had. He arranged the items in his pencil case with supreme pristine. He was also quick to understand where he went wrong and also to apologize for his actions. This showed that he was different but still knew understand how he should behave. As in normal life experiences, students often show there unsupportiveness towards individuals with disabilities and I didn’t admire that in the short film. Although they are slightly different we are all human being sand should be treated as one would want to be treated. As a teacher with students who may have special need, I think the two main important thing is to identify the special need and then to understand how to teach these students. In the film, Shao teacher new that he was autistic, so she read about it and applied what she learn about students being autistic to teach.
