Hardy – Weinberg Practice Problems
1. In a populations of squirrels, the allele that causes bushy tails (B) is dominant, while the allele
that causes bald tails is recessive (b). If 54% of the squirrels have a bushy tail, what is the
frequency of the dominant allele?
2. A rather large population of Biology teachers has 396 individuals with poor vision and 557
with good vision individuals. Assume that poor vision is due to a homozygous recessive
condition. Calculate the following:
A. The allele frequencies of each allele.
B. The expected genotype frequencies.
C. The number of heterozygous individuals that you would predict to be in this population.
3. In a certain group of 87 rabbits, the presence of yellow fur is the result of a homozygous
recessive condition in the biochemistry pathway producing hair pigment. If 12 of those rabbits
have yellow hair, find each of the following:
A. The frequency of the dominant allele in the population.
B. The percent of dominant looking rabbits.
